I dick around a lot. Say stupid shite that I don't actually believe. So I hope you can give me a second to be real for once.

I find that I have a really hard time rationalizing how fricked the human race is. It's like everybody has lost their mind. There's just so much... Hate in people. It's crazy and it goes around every branch of society and people.

How do you people cope with it?? I honestly don't know how to handle people anymore. I find I can't sleep sometimes because my mind can't put to rest the extreme behavior these whack jobs do.

I don't know if I believe in anything anymore. I feel like nothing is sacred or true. I find myself seriously questioning the existence of good because of this bullshite.

Is this an attitude from all the shite you see on TV/social media or from your interpersonal experiences with people?

If the former, that's easily solved: stop watching the fake news and get off social media. They're vastly skewed towards the bad.

If the latter, well that's a little bit trickier but still solvable: a new job perhaps, a move to a new neighborhood or even city, or make it a point to cut out trips to the places where hateful people gather (Walmart, fast food, etc).

Travel the world. Here's a good quote:

You: I can't do this.

Me: I know.
It's all wrong
By rights we shouldn't even be here.
But we are.
It's like in the great stories.
The ones that really mattered.
Full of darkness and danger they were,
and sometimes you didn't want to know the end.
Because how could the end be happy?
How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened?
But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow.
Even darkness must pass.
A new day will come.
And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.
Those were the stories that stayed with you.
That meant something.
Even if you were too small to understand why.
But I think, I do understand.
I know now.
Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t.
Because they were holding on to something.

You: What are we holding on to?

Me: That there’s some good in this world.
And it’s worth fighting for.

We're primates. We're closer to chimpanzees than any other species, and not the good ones. If we were like bonobo chimps, we'd be peaceful and resolve our conflicts through mutual physical pleasure such as sex. Bonobos live peaceful lives because they don't let conflicts get to an aggressive stage. Tension between individuals does not last long.

Instead we're like common chimps. They live in groups where physical aggression is the norm. Conflicts are resolved by the establishment of power of one individual over another, or others, via physical aggression. They even conduct "war" on other groups, killing and maiming to gain territorial advantages for their clans. Tension within groups is palpable and long lasting.

The hippies used to say, "Make love, not war." Maybe some of us are more like bonobos than common chimps but it's a tiny fraction of the whole.

Liberalism is a mental disorder, and it's affecting millions of people. We have no common sense anymore in this country. People can't even differentiate between male and female anymore. The collective IQ of America has to be in single digits now. It's sad.

Society has gravitated to the need to express oneself to the world through social media, internet, etc. Most people, it seems, can't even drive down the road without being connected to someone on the phone. Many people don't think for themselves anymore, they simply respond and react to what other people think or say about them through social media. It's intellectual laziness IMO.

I work for a law enforcement agency and am also a volunteer firefighter/emt. Crazy people are my life. I'd most likely be unemployed and in need of a different way to serve my community without them.

Stop assuming what you see on tv is real. Pop culture is just jr high with all the oddballs collected together

Everyone in it is clamoring for attention because that is how they make money

Normal people are not like that

And the news focuses on kooks

i'm trying to figure out if my ennui happens to most all people at this age or if this society truly is regressing. knowing history, the latter is more prevalent than the former.

i like to scan fb to keep up with friends and to see how creative/intuitive people can be. what i observe looks like serious degeneration. i'm astonished at what people allow themselves to believe and what they are willing to express.

a prominent example is the occupy democrat propaganda graphics. it's so obvious that they are half truths/intentionally misleading yet people act like they've actually discovered some incriminating truth. it's pathetic and absurd.

what's worse is the class of animals out there. just read the fb comments to the recent fight in b.r. tigerland. there's no reasoning with these people.

the insidious beliefs about islam are mystifying. there is a sect of violent muslims who desperately want to kill all infidels, including moderate muslims. it has nothing to do with jobs, wealth, water or any of that western nonsense. it's purely religiously motivated. yet, libs continue to think that if we would just "get along" or patronize them, these problems would go away. it's beyond naive and ignorant.

otoh, last night, i worked a shift with about 10 young guys of different races. they were all cool, civil, conversational, joking, helpful, etc. same with the ladies that i work with. i consider them my friends. what i see on tv/etc, i just haven't experienced irl.

I feel like nothing is sacred or true
it's easy for us to let skepticism become full blown relativism. G. K. Chesterton-

"“But the new rebel is a skeptic, and will not entirely trust anything. He has no loyalty; therefore he can never be really a revolutionist. And the fact that he doubts everything really gets in his way when he wants to denounce anything. For all denunciation implies a moral doctrine of some kind; and the modern revolutionist doubts not only the institution he denounces, but the doctrine by which he denounces it. . . . As a politician, he will cry out that war is a waste of life, and then, as a philosopher, that all life is waste of time. A Russian pessimist will denounce a policeman for killing a peasant, and then prove by the highest philosophical principles that the peasant ought to have killed himself. . . . The man of this school goes first to a political meeting, where he complains that savages are treated as if they were beasts; then he takes his hat and umbrella and goes on to a scientific meeting, where he proves that they practically are beasts. In short, the modern revolutionist, being an infinite skeptic, is always engaged in undermining his own mines. In his book on politics he attacks men for trampling on morality; in his book on ethics he attacks morality for trampling on men. Therefore the modern man in revolt has become practically useless for all purposes of revolt. By rebelling against everything he has lost his right to rebel against anything.”

quote:

I find myself seriously questioning the existence of good because of this bullshite.
the fact that you understand what evil is means you necessarily have a preconception of what good is. since that is the case, good definitely exists or you wouldn't know of its existence.

to answer your question, yes. i absolutely have been affected by this tumultuous time. but, my life continues to be peaceful and rewarding.

It has always been thus. Crime used to be worse. People used to be more impoverished.
