Sorry Auburn grads can't get elected in the state..

I don't think this is something Alabamans should be proud of, but I don't live there. Y'all can do whatever you want. I just think that refusing to vote for a guy ONLY because he's an Auburn man is a shining example of taking college sports, and sports in general, way way too far. Good luck Bama, I hope you guys find a governor who will do great things for your state. We're all Americans and your success is our success!

Actually the last two governors in Alabama that have been worth a shite were Auburn grads.

Kay Ivey, the current governor. Although she wasn't elected and has only been in office a couple of weeks now.

The last one before that, Fob James elected over 20 years ago, was an All-American RB for Auburn under Shug Jordan in the mid-50s.

The 3 governors inbetween James and Ivey were all Bama grads and it's gone terribly.

-Don Seigleman - just released from Federal Prison two months ago after serving 5 years
-Bob Riley - not terrible, but just kind of there. A lame duck.
-Robert Bentley - time as governor ended in arrest, resigning just before he could be impeached, and will likely do prison time

ETA:
But yes, any association with Auburn football these days would be a huge hurdle to clear to get elected to any statewide office in Alabama. There absolutely would be hordes of Bama redneck that would vote for anybody else other than Tuberville or somebody associated with Auburn football.

I think Barkley could get it done, but a lot of Alabama fans actually like him because basketball is forgiveable. And he would also carry the black vote.
