Hasn't happen since Penn State

Or even play in a neutral site away from a SEC state

Sometime long after 2020. Neutral site games are too profitable to stop playing in them. New AD Greg Byrne has already said that they'll continue to be scheduled.

I know right. It's bitten us in the arse so many times considering we've been to BCS/CFP games for 9 years in a row

When people care about your team you get cush OOC neutral site games. I know, foreign to you.

If it's not broke, don't fix it. They have total leverage. Everyone wants to play the best team, because if you beat them you earn insane respect. Ole Miss goes .500 against them and they can't stop pounding their chest. I don't say that to disparage Ole Miss, it just shows how much credibility is gained by beating them. Because they know that, why would they play anywhere that would decrease the chances of a Bama victory? They'd have zero to gain by it.

I'd love to pick on Bama but this really doesn't work given that Alabama (USC) and Tennessee (VT) were the only two SEC schools with high quality OOC wins when all was said and done last season.

Bama previously had a plan to play H/H/N games every three years. That went out the window when GT asked out of the 2013/2014 H/H series. When that happened the Atlanta Sports Council obtained a tentative agreement with USC to play Bama in their game in either of those years (USC's choice). The ASC began negotiations with Bama for both years not knowing which year USC would choose.

The agreement with USC ended when Pete Carroll left and the ASC wound up contracting Bama for both years. 2015 was still open for the neutral site game and was used for that purpose. After playing all three years in neutral site games, Saban decided he preferred that to the three year plan of H/H/N.

William you may find more happiness if you lose your infatuation with daddy Bama. Just a suggestion.

Why do you care? Open up with a top 3 opponent in Atlanta. What we have been doing works for us so why fix something that isn't broke. Where is your team opening up this year?

I'm not sure it matters all that much. I know some years ago they opened the season against UCLA in Pasadena and won big.

It would be interesting though to see how Bama would do at Columbus in a night game there against O State or in a late afternoon game against a USC .....but only if it was a stacked USC team

Playing neutral site games against Power 5 opponents to open the season has worked like a fricking charm for them. The question isn't "When will Bama play a true OOC road game?", it's "When will everyone else learn from that example?" Some SEC teams are already doing this. The rest need to catch up. I personally love that we're doing a h-&-h with Stanford but I'd be pleased as punch of we did, say, a neutral site game with Duke or some other private school that doesn't have 10 times our student body.

Hell, I'd take Ohio State in Dallas.

Edit: It does kind of piss me off that we scheduled a road game at ND without a reciprocal home game, though. It's not like we're desperate for recruiting help. Kids watching that game will come away from it thinking that see Vandy play reminds them of how much they'd like to go to Stanford.

We know who you are. Even if you are a Clemson troll (which you are not) beating us once is admirable so congrats but we are the pinnacle of power in college football. Maybe you will get back to the playoffs again this year, I am pretty confident we will be there. You should be content for a second place west finish. That would be great for O in year one.
