For the most part, when the cops frick with away fans at UF, it's because those fans are acting like dickheads

That wasn't my experience. The cops seemed to be going out of their way to bust opposing fans who didn't understand their rules. We've never experienced anything like it in any other city we've tailgated at so idk why you think I'm playing the victim.

Tailgating for football is supposed to be fun, it's not fun to constantly be looking over your shoulder expecting to be ticketed for just standing somewhere with a beer.

Multiple UF fans apologized and said they know their cops are strict and dicks and blamed their President, but I have no desire to go back.

There is a new president and from I can tell it is considerably more relaxed.

I agree. It's no fun to be looking over your shoulder wondering if you sipping on a beer is okay. I just haven't seen these situations where cops are actively seeking out away fans. They have signs posted in a lot of places in the neighborhoods informing people it doesn't matter if it's a gameday or not. Again, if you park in a private lot, just tailgate there and just don't walk around with a beer in transit. It's fairly easy to understand.

But back to the situation I was talking about, I was talking about your situation in the stands. Yes I've seen cops be dicks to entire rows, but it's not just away fans. It's usually because someone is being a dick or multiple people being dicks and trying to argue with the cops.

That's good to hear

Was there a specific incident or string of incidents that sparked the need for everything to be so strict?

And for what it is worth, I am an attorney, so if there are usually any issues with cops in our tailgate or a surrounding tailgate, I quickly put the cops in their place if I see them trying to pull some shite that I know isn't legal. It's become kind of an annoyance for me some days though.

And I agree with bgator. Last year seemed super tame with the cops since President fricks has arrived.

This part was less them being dicks and more just annoying. Again, never seen anything like it. We were in the LSU section with tickets bought through LSU, and they literally went down multiple rows one by one and made everyone feel like they shouldn't be there (this was all right before kickoff). But what you said is exactly what happened, people who were doing nothing started questioning why and then it just escalated and they ended up kicking a couple fans out before the game even started. The cops escalated and caused the whole thing.

ETA: this all happened in 2008, I wish I had gotten kicked out before having to watch Tebow curb stomp us

It was just Machen. Back when he was at Utah he stated he wanted to ban alcohol at tailgates. It was a real clash of cultures when he came to Florida.

Yeah man, I'll do so at least until I'm too many beers in to make a coherent argument at least... we did just move to a private lot though and it hasn't happened once since we did so. We have away fans park in our lot all of the time too.

I hope you give it another chance this year. And I'm serious, I would like to entertain a few of you all (you know, after making sure you guys aren't Craigslist killers and all).

Yeah Machen also tried to bulldoze midtown. I'm glad that didn't happen.

That's great to hear. Last year was one of the extremely rare years when I didn't make it out to Gainesville for a game, so I had no idea. Every Gator fan knows how shitty GPD and UFPD are so any change is a welcome one.

Honestly, is there anything about The Orthodontist that President Fuchs makes you miss? Not for me, that's for damned sure. We got a seriously perfect hire for our new President.

I fricking hated that guy from the day I became a student to the day he stepped down. I'll remember his tenure as nothing short of a disgrace.

Already have the site booked at Fort Wilderness for the week before the game. My wife wants to know why they cannot play in Florida every year. Told her because I cannot fricking afford it

I'll be honest, I've always wanted to see their reactions.

It's not great being the second best program in the SEC but hopefully Mac can gain on Bama.

I mean would you like to debate the obvious with me?

Do we need to go over obesity rates, poverty rates and any measure of education?

I don't think it will be fun for you.
