It's not about being good at football. The program just has so many more resources at its disposal than the basketball program. Thus higher expectations from me.

If you don't understand where the flaw in your logic is here, I'm not sure anyone can help you. "Resources at its disposal" is only relevant as far as the *relative* resources related to the rest of the conference/division/etc for that sport. Our basketball team is not at any real disadvantage compared to the rest of the league not named Kentucky and maybe Florida, other than at head coach. My comment wasn't indicating that we *shouldn't* win the East next year, simply that it's insane for you to hold Smart to this standard when you are not only accepting of Fox but complimentary of him, even though he's failing to produce at an even lower level after 8 seasons.

If we're going to give him passes because Maten is missing the tail end of the season, or whatever other bullshite excuse you want to make, then why is it incumbent on Smart to win the East or bust, when guys may get injured, teams that we play may be far better than expected, or any other number of potential situations that you aren't accounting for. I think we all *want* to win the East, but simply doing it or not doing it does not tell us whether Kirby is the guy or not. A 10-11 win regular season would be a good start, if that happens to mean that somehow another team represents the East, I'm not sure I have a problem with that, particularly if it looks like Smart and the staff are coaching at a higher level. It certainly does not indicate to me that he's a clown or that we have "the wrong guy". Just use some common sense...

I'd agree that our schedule is pretty soft, but honestly our basketball schedule was pretty soft this year, and we had "some of the greatest players in Georgia history" to paraphrase some of the commentary from the basketball thread (Maten and Frazier). In what way is it rational or logical to think that Fox is as good as we can do for a basketball coach but Smart is a failure in year 2 if he fails to win the division?

I'm not some huge Fox fan, but this isn't true.
