Secure a major piece to the future front 7

Alabama accomplished this goal.

Cameron Latu, a 4-star Jack linebacker from Olympus High School (Salt Lake City), committed to Alabama over Southern California.

Olympus High School coach Aaron Whitehead said the message he received from college coaches coast to coast as to why they wanted Latu at their school focused on the 6-foot-5, 236-pound prospect’s size and versatility.

“They can use him as an outside linebacker, a true defensive end and a defensive end that stands up,” Whitehead told SEC Country. “There’s just so much you can do with him because he’s so athletic. We’re going to take advantage of his athleticism this season.”

Latu had 65 tackles, 20 for loss, with 9 sacks for Olympus in his junior season. He also plays tight end and wide receiver for his school, too. Whitehead said it’s almost impossible for coaches to keep him off the field with how good of a player he is for his team.

“He’s a guy that can pin his ears back and create havoc for a quarterback,” Whitehead said. “All he does is make plays. He’s a playmaker.

“We’re supposed to be conservative here in this area, and my wife may kick mine if she hears this, but Cam Latu is an arse-kicker. I’m very proud of him and excited for him. This is a great opportunity for a great kid.”

Get DT Coynis Miller to commit this month instead of holding off

Alabama didn’t accomplish this goal, and it’s probably a good thing that it didn’t.

Coynis Miller, a 4-star defensive tackle from Jackson-Olin High School (Birmingham, Ala.), recently named Florida his leader and Auburn as his No. 2 school. Alabama sits at No. 3. I don’t believe that the Gators are the team to beat. I still think this will come down to Alabama or Auburn.

Miller grew up a big Crimson Tide fan and has said Alabama was the school that was recruiting him the hardest. Alabama needs several interior linemen this year and Miller is one of the team’s top targets.

The "upside" thing with Joiner is obvious with his size and athleticism. The question is position (is he a natural RB or not?) and attitude. If you just simply ranked guys based on raw physical metrics, he's easily a top 50 national recruit. There's a lot more to it than that, though. Hopefully he pulls a TJ Yeldon (if he comes to Bama) and blows up this year. Good start with his first game. Fortunately, Burton Burns doesn't miss very often when it comes to evaluating and developing RBs.

Staff visits for tomorrow night:

Tosh Lupoi will be watching Adam Anderson.

Burton Burns will be watching Owen Pappoe.

Ansley will be watching Quay Walker.

Burns watching Pappoe is odd, both territorially and position coach-wise. What in the world? I guess other coaches already have other places to be.

The entire team, including staff, is going to Atlanta a day early to tour the new stadium. I guess they are only visiting kids in the state of Georgia and aren't necessarily sticking to normal recruiting regions.

Keith Niebuhr has an article up on Auburn's 247 predicting their class. Here's the ones relevant to us:

WR Seth Williams - Confidence level Medium
DE Andres Fox - Confidence level Low
DT Coynis Miller - Confidence level Medium

No Justyn Ross in this prediction. Interesting.

Fwiw, the AZ Cardinals played in the new stadium last week, they have complained a good bit about the condition of the field.

Very slippery and they considered it borderline safe. Barely played their star RB David Johnson for fear of injury. They had planned on him playing into the 2nd qtr, but changed their mind due to the condition of the field.

That's really bad news. I sure hope they have it corrected

Sounds like the surface in the old Eagles stadium.

I remember watching those games and thinking, "that's just concrete painted green".

That would suck for both teams, especially if it causes an injury.

Been talked about on the radio a lot. They say the newness is the problem, needs to be broken in.

Yeah. I guess the fact that they'll all be in ATL explains it. Otherwise, it would be really weird.

LINK

Thought this was interesting as we have the most talented team ranked #1. Currently have 18 5* on the rosters with 10 starting.

Your link says we only have 84 scholarship players.

I wonder if Levi Wallace will get one.
