Anyone have any thoughts or feelings? Does anyone care? I can't believe nothing has been posted at all...
My first thought is; we will be his 3rd team in 3 years.
He left FSU to come to A&M when Jimbo is sitting on an ice block and Sumlin's seat is hotter than a summer seatbelt. So are we over paying him, or does he just love a challenge?
Also, he was at alabama for 6 years, spent one year with Richt and when he was let go, Smart didn't keep him, despite them coaching together for half a decade. I get that hiring a whole new staff is par for the course, and expected but...

Kind of where I was going with it. Changing your S&C coach now seems futile.

We are winning 10 games next year

Don't S&C coaches often stay on from head coach to head coach if they are good?
This guy has a good resume, but his hopping around recently is head scratching.

you said this last year too, we aren't. Don't even dream about it. It starts out as fun and games and then 4-6 games in it actually looks possible for a second and you start to believe yourself, forgetting that it started out as a joke.

This, best quote I saw on Texans was something to the effect of "sumlin is just rearranging deck chairs on the titanic right now."

I think Sarge is joking. I don't expect anyone here is really on the Sumlin train anymore.
Honestly though given how our program works that does mean we will win ten games next year.

So true, I should even say it to torment CGSC

Granted that Sumlin is living on borrowed time, but it is still important that we not waste a year of physical development for the players on campus. Anyone who spent 6 years with Saban I'm predisposed to think is a good hire. Did Saban fire Hocke, or did he just move laterally to Georgia?

He was an assistant strength coach at FSU I'm pretty sure and is head guy here, that's why he left

on the surface, it seems like the type of hire a program makes when everyone knows the head coach is not going to be here much longer.
Hopefully the guaranteed money isn't too much and we aren't adding to the buyout we have to pay in 11 months

Here's how the contract negotiations went (shamelessly stolen from texags):
quote:
Agent: We want 2 years guaranteed.
BMA: No. It will be 4 years guaranteed, payable within 60 days of termination.
Agent: Ok, we accept your deal.
BMA: Sounds great. We'll get the contract over to you. *hangs up phone*
BMA: *picks up phone* Hey John, buddy, I still got it. He is ours, and they accepted my terms.
