They told us so...At least they did 3.5 years ago.

From an anonymous SEC coach in 2013

quote:

They are going to be slim in a lot of spots. It's going to take them three years to get a good foundation. It's a product of bad recruiting - which is typical of a Bobby Petrino school. It's the same thing that happened at Louisville that got Steve Kragthorpe fired. Petrino didn't leave him any players. It's the same thing at Arkansas. They have no players on defense. Petrino would load up on offense and leave the cupboard bare. That's why he can't ever get over the hump.

Dumbest post I've seen in a long arse time...

This was year 4 so none of that shite matters, but in case someone thinks it does, the best defense we have had under Bert was Petrino guys.

He has another sub par season, he's gone or should be. The end of this season was inexcusable.

I think a majority agree but there really isn't a reason we shouldn't have hit 8 wins at least this year including the bowl game.

At the moment I don't really see the point of getting upset about Bert either way. There is a really good chance he is going to be the coach for the next two years. He is going to get a chance to redeem himself and improve that record, whether he deserves it or not.

Elite coaches win.

Bert is a good coach, he's just not elite like he portrays himself.

I said from the get go that I hoped Bert was not our Kragthorpe. Part of me thought there was no way Bert could be that because of his coaching pedigree. Now, not so much.

Kragthorpe followed Petrino and in 3 years went 15-21, but got the program cleansed of all wrong doing and trouble makers. Strong then followed him up and won 23 games in his last two years, and 37 games overall in four years.

I guess we will see, but my patience is wearing thin.

Oh I know he was put in a bad spot, or, I should say... he put himself in a bad spot. I think Bert thought he was cutting a fat hog in the arse when he took the Arkansas job and that we were loaded with talent that just hadn't produced for John L. Smith.

Instead he left a steady second tier Big 10 program that was punching above its weight class to do a major rebuild in the most difficult division in college football at a state that does not produce a ton of talent.

Its why we've been patient the last few years even with losses like Toledo.

That having been said the collapses against Missouri and V. Tech are inexcusable. We had the talent to beat V. Tech and we have a lot more talent then Missouri does at this stage of their rebuild. Big leads in both games and a total second half collapse.

Those weren't Toledo like losses where we dominated the game statistically but somehow stumbled to a loss. We just flat out quit on the field in the second half.

Hopefully he gets things turned around next year and I would be thrilled if we have a great season, but the clock is starting to tick.

So we had a top 10 defense in year 2 of Bert with no players on defense?

I think that reflects even more poorly on Bert since our defense is performing worse with his players than with Petrinos.
