It's a well known fact that some of the best recruits in college football come from the great state of Florida. From prep schools of Tampa, Orlando, and Miami to the cane fields of Belle Glade and Pahokee, Florida's talent pool is deep.

However, unlike my hate of Georgia, the talent is not unlimited. While Lane might be able to recruit Boca Condo Cougars, getting talent to FAU will be tougher than a two dollar steak. Most of the recruits that will be willing to play for Joey Saltwater will likely have to come from the South Florida area. And that area of the Gunshine State has been and will be gutted by other programs with better connections.

Consider this, Kiffy is going to be going up against McElwain, who, with help from Randy Shannon has been getting great players from St. Thomas Aquinas, Booker T. Washington, etc. USF just hired Charlie Strong, Mark Richt is down at the U, and of course, Butch freaking Davis just got hired at FAU's de facto rival school: Florida International. Coupled with the facts that FSU, Bama, and other schools have the panhandle and other parts of Flo Rida on lock, and that Auburn and Georgia have cornered off the penal market, Lane is going to have a rough time for a few years before he will get the talent he needs.

But he will have an ample opportunity to power up his nose and smoke like Bob. So he's got that going for him now. Which is nice.

FAU is what it is in the pecking order, but if he puts together a good staff he should still be able to upgrade the talent level at FAU substantially, and probably enough to win a decent number of games in that league.

The Correctional School of Learning in Dade will take a mess of good recruits, all the bigten schools ransack south Florida, plus USF has Strong, UCF has Frost and FAU will be scrapping along for a while...BUT spiffy kiffy has secret weapon to throw down...invite recruits over to the crib and have Layla (daughter of ex UF QB Reaves) in bathing suit. It cant hurt. He forgets that 40+ yr old womenz arent what those kids wanna see though.

Eh, worked for Gus with Cam. Jimbo's recruiting has suffered since the divorce. Just saying.

There's a decent article on SDS about how the big Florida schools will be taking a closer look at recruiting targets at southflorida/fiu/fau and finding diamonds kiff and co. are investing time in.

I compare it to the Petrino situation. He'll take a team (western kentucky/FAU) and win them 7 or 8 games and then move on. He'll be in Tenn to fix the mediocrity in due time.

I honestly don't think he's going to be able to handle being a single rich dude in South Florida.
There's so much gold digging pussy there it's unbelievable. He will have himself a 20 - 24 year old Instagram model on his arse in no time.

Who cares anymore? He's out of the SEC now and is just a bug on a windshield. Probably won't hear his name in anything significant for a few years when he decides to hightail it.

FAU already has some good talent that is young. He has a good starting base. Some top 3 stars from Florida. A lot of people think 3 stars in Florida could be 4 stars elsewhere but too many good players in Florida so it has to be spread around to keep ratings somewhat credible. I am not saying he will compete for the top recruits. I am saying that if he gets 3 stars from Florida and he stays long enough for them to be juniors, he could be very successful at that level. The biggest problem for him is Charlie Strong and Butch Davis. They will all compete for the same players, but Charlie will get a few 4 and possibly a 5 star or two who want to play for him and take USF to the next level. Charlie is the threat to SEC recruiting out of the group because USF has a lot to offer regardless of who the coach might be, and Charlie is attractive to recruits as well.

Yep. FAU isn't in the SEC and with his reputation as an OC, he will be able to attract a lot of those 3* guys that will be good enough to compete in CUSA.

People are so dumb with this.. hes not competing with Florida or Miami for recruits. He's competing against Florida international and other schools on the same level. All he has to do is get the best recruits in his league.

And honestly, the way Lane gameplans. He only needs 1 or 2 guys that can be a mismatch and he will just ride them all season.

Everybody including Kiffin himself knows that he's not getting the cream of the crop in Florida. No CFB coach including Saban and Meyer would ever win a NC if they were FAU coach. People don't expect to win NCs when they take the FAU job.
