I wonder, too. But I think Haith was just Haith. I don't think he is able to long-range plan. He's just trying to make it to next year every year.

Do you think that mentality and how that bleeds into all aspects of a program could be a problem when trying to build a healthy culture?
Haith was worried about furnishing the upstairs with tv's, not building a solid foundation. KA's mission 1a has been to build the foundation properly, for a better future for himself or another guy (and obviously it's going to be for another guy).
That should be recognized by the fans. But it's not.

Honestly, whatever KA has done to stabilize things won't be known until the next guy shows up.
Unfortunately for Anderson if it continues to be a mess, he'll be blamed. Conversely, if the next guy comes in and results are seen, new guy gets the love.
I'm assuming Anderson understood this when he was hired.

Yes. If a new guy comes in next year most of what KA has done won't be visible until then. But there are signs of stabilization now. I see the foundation being poured. Obviously that's not a popular opinion. But having the wubilli guy, who seems to know his shite and display objective thinking, in the same ballpark as me is enough to validate this for myself.

Yes, of course. And if it does the average guy won't give any credit to Anderson or objectively see that he did what was best for Mizzou knowing that it may end up in his sacrificial death. Haith did what was best for Haith. Do everything to benefit the moment with no long range goal for sustainable success.

Yes. I would assume that.

You keep saying this. But you can provide no evidence of it. So it's really just your perception of the program based upon your self-admittedly cursory knowledge of it.

I believe Anderson to be (and I don't mean this as mean as it sounds) a dolt. I don't think he knew anything when he was hired other than "Yippee. My dream came true."

I keep waiting for more than just flowery language about him being a martyr.

He took one for the team to be sure.
Sacrifice is a bit strong. He's being paid pretty well to "make things better internally".
Everyone involved knew what this was, it was a rebound relationship that got everyone where they need to be, it's time to move on.

So what we're saying is that if Mizzou had ponied up and gotten a real coach, he couldn't have "gotten things right internally" and won more than 9 games a season?
ETA - Make that 11 by season 3

That thought is a 5+5=10 equation.
It's (5+5)X=?
The X is whether or not we could have hired someone legit, ponying or not.
Who was available? Who was really willing to take the job? How much could we have paid? Would it have been worth it?

That's my point. Just about anyone not named Kim Anderson could have "cleaned house" and yet not had back to back to back embarrassingly bad seasons. So to answer your question about who was available...anyone and everyone not named Coach K, Bill Self, Roy Williams and so on. Anyone could have done what KA did and not imploded the program at the same time.

Tell yourself that, but we don't know who the real options were. We don't know all the details about the probation and if all truth has been told on who knew what and when. The job was likely viewed as toxic. Not sure why you think people are going to shift laterally for a job that's toxic.
When it comes to B- to C+ grade coaches (which is what we were going to get) I'd argue that it'd be unlikely for any of them to do what was best Mizzou long-term at the risk of putting themselves in harms way -- which is what KA has done. I think that factored into this big time.

Lol.
You know where I stand on the KA hire.
I've watched, on an average aggregate level, one game per season since he's been hired. I knew it was bad, and I knew it would be THIS bad.
I'm ready for him to walk today.
I'm just saying that if KA did what he was hired to do, and if that mission has been accomplished, then let's move on. We all knew this moment was inevitable, that the hire would result in this.
Fire him now, get the staffing stuff in order, keep some of the young guys from transfer, and go for broke when it counts.
It's not like KA had elite recruits lined up to lose.

Your reply is accurate...... Also, you did it without 3 paragraphs of meaningless, repetitious BS too.. Oh Sleepy should take note.

You'd risk that one positive thing being undone if you fired him now. It would also be really bizarre timing. He'd have coached zero conference games with a full roster of his guys, and we haven't had a game with his supposedly impact transfer. Those reasons are why it won't happen now.
I'm sure they're doing their diligence behind the scenes to find the next guy.

Gregg Marshall was a real option, hell, he was an option when Haith was hired. Alden fricked it all up.
I'd bet he may still be an option.

rather have jacobson
Posted on 12/12/16 at 7:04 pm to Remote Controlled
Gregg Marshall wasn't taking that job at that time. We all knew it. And he was definitely an outlier in terms of 'level' of coach compared the others who were in the ballpark of consideration.
I agree, he may still be an option and with the right dollars we'd have a better chance to get him now.

I'll imply that he wasn't an outlier in terms of interest.
Probably wasn't going to happen in hindsight, but I know for a fact there were talks.
At the time, I didn't understand the hire of KA based on what I heard, and everyone acts like Alden wasn't clear about the NCAA stuff back then, but I think it's obvious now.
I bet if Sterk called Marshall in late Feb early March timeframe with a "hey how ya doin", things could get heated soon enough.
