That transitive property argument haha. I think 2004 USC was a better team than the hyped up '05 team because Shaun Cody and Mike Patterson were beasts on the D line. That's one common factor that the all-time teams share- beastly offensive and defensive lines. It matters because you eventually have to play an elite team that can rip off 5, 6, 7 yards per carry if you don't have a monster D-line.

One of the worst was 2015 Bama
BS. While I wouldn't rank 'em in the top 5 since they lost to Ole Miss, they went 14-1 against the toughest schedule in the nation last year. Their SOS was rated #1 by just about every 2015 rating system; a couple of systems had them with either the toughest schedule ever or toughest in 30 years. They were 7-1 against teams that finished ranked in the top 25 and 12-1 against bowl teams (8-1 against bowl winning teams).

Best I've seen
1. 2011 Bama
2a. 2011 LSU
2b. 2016 Bama (Could move to #1 if they run through playoffs)
4. 2012 Bama (That Oline was incredible)
5. 2010 Auburn (Really liked 08 UF but Cam was unstoppable)
Honorable mention:
08 UF
06 AU
08 UGA (The one with Moreno, Stafford and Green)
03 LSU
06 LSU
09 Bama
15 Bama

2004 Auburn is arguably the greatest football team of all time. Margin of victory, 4 first round draft picks, 3 in the top 10.
Absurd. They only played 3 or 4 teams with a winning record. They didn't deserve a shot at the title, and certainly aren't in discussion for tGOAT.

Having the best talent doesn't always equate to being the best teams.
Agreed. That's my biggest argument against 2001 Miami; with all the NFL talent they had on that team, it's hard to quantify how great of a team they were based on how the team performed. They struggled with Virginia Tech and Boston College that year, and they only beat one team that finished ranked in the top 10. That team was #8 Nebraska who was probably the worst team to ever make a BCS championship game; they lost their division to Colorado on the last game of the regular season, 62-36, yet still stayed at #2 in the BCS. It's not their fault who was on their schedule, but their SOS is in the lower echelon of BCS/CFP champions.
Were they the most talented? There's a great argument for that. Best team ever? There's a great argument against that...

Miami had pure speed and chemistry though. They were actually identical to the 2012 Alabama team imo. Run heavy offense with a star WR and some speedy slot guys and then the defense ball hawked, dominated the d-line, and put crushing hits on opponents making it hard for them to pick up a single first down, let alone establish a drive.
The BC game, I remember that one distinctly. Boston College was pretty good and executed a perfect defensive game plan to contain Portis and make Dorsey win the game, and Dorsey had an awful day. It was like the SEC Championship Game for '12 Alabama against Georgia kinda.
To shut down 2001 Miami or 2012 Alabama, you had to mix up the perfect plays defensively to stop the running game and leave yourself at risk of getting burned by the mega WRs like Johnson or Cooper or the speedy slot guys on slants, and then you had to find a way to somehow move the ball on offense without getting turned over. I dunno, those two teams are clearcut the best I've ever seen. I think there's a gap between '01 Miami and '12 Alabama and the rest.

pointless trolling
arguing they're not in the conversation for GOAT is one thing, the rest of your post is typical Tuscaloosa stupidity

Nah 2005 Texas was slow as heck. I'm faster than Cedric Benson to be honest. Also a very gimmicky team the way it used Young.
Son, I ran track against benson in HS. I didn't see him cause I won, but considering the race, nobody in it was "slow"

Same thing with Texas
What the frick are you even trying to say? 2005 has absolutely zero bearing on how 2004 USC would have matched up with 2004 Auburn.
Posted on 12/7/16 at 1:13 pm to VirginiaCavaliers90
2011 Alabama is easily the best team I've ever seen.

2004 Would have been an amazing playoff
USC/Texas. Oklahoma/Auburn
Vince Young was unstoppable at that point
Auburn would have not gotten past OU
That OU team was very good
2008/2009 when you had Tebow, McCoy & Bradford.
That would have been an awesome two year dual @ the end.

Nice.. 100m? You run in college?
Already stated, Ced wasn't on that squad.. it was Jamal Charles & Ramonce Taylor, who could both flat out fly.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's trolling. It is what's it is.
Louisiana Monroe (5-6)
Mississippi State (3-8)
LSU (9-3)
Citadel (3-7)
Tennessee (10-3)
LA Tech (6-6)
Arkansas (5-6)
Kentucky (2-9)
Ole Miss (4-7)
Georgia (10-2)
Alabama (6-6)
Tennessee (10-3)
That's a weak arse schedule in a weak arse conference, played by a team who had gotten tin horned by USC the previous two years in a row. Sorry.
