Probably.
Supposedly he, Kiffin, and Saban had a long meeting the day the news that Kiffin was a candidate for the Houston job broke.
Of course, that's assuming Kiffin would leave immediately. IMO, he probably will. If Houston wants to have any kind of a recruiting class, the new HC is going to have to put together a staff and hit the ground running hard.

Wasn't Smart able to handle both jobs last year? I'd think Lane could do the same this year.

Not based on how his defense played against Clemson. We had to onside kick because the defense couldn't get off the field.

I believe Smart was recruiting Bama recruits for Georgia at the time too. Really should just cut the relationship clean if an assistant coach gets a HC job.

You are probably right. Saban is tough to get in frount of. Lane is not the recruiter for the 5* Qb who is supposed to be at Bama in December.
