In 2010 he finished two losses behind the division champ.

In 2011 he finished third and even in a three way tie would not have made it to Atlanta.

So no, he wasn't close.

Just as he hasn't been close to winning the acc.

Beat Auburn and we go to Atlanta in 2010. That game was in doubt well into the 2nd half.

In 2011 he was 10-1 going into the LSU game. Does a three way tie send us to Atlanta? Probably not, but that was close because there was a chance. You're acting like Bret and Petrino were close in their overall results here and that is disingenuous.

I'm not on the fire Bert bandwagon, nor am I someone who is glorifying Petrino. But Petrino was a lot closer to winning the west in a tougher version of the SEC than we are now. And as far as 2012, that team would have been much better than 4-8 with Petrino at the helm. Petrino was always very important for the offense to function, since he called the plays, and was involved in ensuring timing between QB/WR, spacing of plays, etc. were to his precise liking.

I think it's disingenuous to to say Bert and Petrino were comparable at this point in their tenure. Petrino was clearly better at this point. No one was talking about firing Petrino at his 4th year point for performance.

Frankly, I don't really care if Bert decides to hire a new DC and fire the current coaches. I think it would probably be a reasonable gesture if he does, but I may not know all the details. He has a contract to do a job, and he reasonably has a few more years to get us where we need to go. If he doesn't get it done with the decisions he makes, he's gone. I don't think he needs a bunch of half baked knowledge from his fans to get it done. If he does, then he REALLY needs to go.

Dude, if he beats auburn In 2010 he wins the division and in 2011 if he beats lsu in convincing fashion on the last game of the regular season, yes he would've went to the sec champ. Gane because it would've been a 3 way tie for first and we would've been in because of point total. If we'd have won close bama would have went and we would have went back to back sugar bowls. Either way, petrino had us within a game those 2 years you can't deny that
