You are mistaken, MUPD is a state law enforcement agency, but is classified within the university system. They are not part of the MO Dept of Public safety and therefore not a part of the highway patrol.

So apparently no one knows exactly who MUPD is affiliated with and why they are hardasses. Gotcha.

I suspect MUPD is staffed by people who long to be "real cops" but have, for a variety of reasons, been unable to achieve that goal.

I suspect you are correct.

I also suspect that finding athletes in these situations has the negative effect that it would at a school like Bama or Auburn.

I doubt UAPD would arrest the star RB with one game left in the season.

But if they didn't bust the football players, then aren't they creating the spoiled, entitled athlete that everyone hates?

Might not have gotten caught, had he not been blasting piano music on his stereo, screaming, "FASTER! FASTER! FASTER!!!!!"

They are deputized by the boone county sheriff are they not? At least they used to be. Which gives them a wider reach than MUPD.

In my dealings with them, and there have been a few, they always come off as keystone cops

Who are you referring to as being deputized by the Sheriff? MUPD? They may very well be, that still doesn't make them part of the highway patrol. I'm not sure if the Boone County Sheriff has deputized them or not. I'm not sure of their arrangement, but I know they have some sort of limited authority in the areas surrounding the campus, so that could come from the Sheriff.

Most municipal departments also have that sort of thing with the Sheriff. They are definitely NOT a part of the highway patrol in any way.

Just a little experience talking is all. Cheers buddy.

MUPD is garbage. It was garbage all four years I was there. I remember my freshman year. My friends and I got pulled over for straddled the white "lane divider" not 50 feet from turning into the Campus Lodge Apartment complex. Also for "having a tail light out."

Both were false. And the tail light was working perfectly fine. Both of them in fact.

I think they get off on pulling people over. Ever try to get an interview with any of them as a J-student? Good luck. And if you do, they're kinda assholes.
