Does it matter at this point of the season? Right now, I just hope we don't get upset by UT-San Antonio. Probably won't happen, but if they play with the same energy that they did this weekend, UTSA could sneak up on us. If they win, San Antonio will start Fiesta early and every primo in that city will get a commemorative tattoo for the occasion.

I feel you Sarge. I am actually more upset about Chavis than the loss overall. Year two with a top five pick we are regressing, and there is no recruiting hope in sight.
Makes me wonder if Chavis, and really any DC, is almost completely dependent on talent when it comes to defensive output. The only coach I have ever seen with defenses better than recruited was Gary Pinkel's teams. Everyone else is as good as the horses. Maybe a guy like Steele does better with Auburn horses than LSU horses, but both programs have recruited way better than us on that side of the ball this century.
Either we need to cure Pinkel's cancer and hire him or we need to ratchet our expectations down as a program because even after Johnny we couldn't recruit enough defensive talent to make a difference.

TCUs defenses were very solid their first few years in the Big 12 until they went full Big 12 and abandoned what had been working
Until this year Michigan State had very good defenses as well and did not recruit at a very high level
