Tenner is riding high, enjoying their best season in ages. They are lining up coach extensions and naming their first born Butch and Lyle.
Lsu has fired a national title winning coach 4 games into the season. They have pulled commercials off the air that has the old fired coach in them to rid themselves of the disgrace.
Yet, both are 5-2.

A few facts, however, are that LSU fans were proclaiming themselves as CFP favorites and that they were as talented as Bama across the board. Brandon Harris was supposed to naturally progress and become a good QB, and Les Miles was going to open up the offense.

But Tennessee has pretty smooth sailing to 10-2, a Top 10 ranking and an SEC East Title.
LSU has a pretty tough last 4 games. So, reasonably looking at things, I'd expect LSU to finish 9-3 or 8-4 and go to a mid-level bowl and Tennessee to finish 10-2 and be in Atlanta.
However, with all that said, your general point stands and is a good one.
