When they joined the SEC, they replaced Texas with us (in their own minds). arky has been hating a big brother type team for 120 years.
They measure their self-worth as a program and as fans as being able to knock off a big program. They're "just little ole Arkansas" vs "big ole Texas" (Houston Nutt).
It made more sense in the SWC because if they could knock off Texas in a down year, it meant they could possibly get a SWC championship and a Cotton Bowl birth. In the SEC there are about 6 big time Texas level programs, so it's not enough to just win one big "upset" game.

No.
LSU was a shite program below us when we joined the SEC.
Texas was replaced by Tennessee as they were one of our permanent cross division opponents at that time.
Then LSU hired Saban and football started being played in their minds.
