Isaiah Mckenzie- Very explosive, Creates Separation, takes 5 yard outs and turns them into scores. Weaknesses - Very small for a receiver and sometimes has hands of stone.
21 catches 318yards and 4 TDs
Terry Godwin - Has shown the ability to look explosive at times but seems to disappear in games. Also doesn't seem to like contact. He is also smaller in stature with a thin frame.
12 catches 163yds and no TDs
Michael Chigbu - Doesn't seem to create separation. When he does get open he's had major issues with dropped passes
7 catches 68yds and no TDs
Javon Wims - I seen him get a good block in the first game. Haven't heard of him much since.
1 Catch this season.
Jayson Stanely - Dropped some tough catches but also has the create separation and get open issue.

Reggie Davis - Pretty sure all he does is go routes and when he does get a step our QB overthrows him.

I would include the TEs but our leading tightend is Freshman Issac Nauta who has 4 catches for 32 yards on the season and seems to get blanketed quite easily by linebackers. Our Tight Ends in this offense have been equally disappointing.
Thoughts? Is it coaching or is it lack of talent? Did we miss bad with the group in recruiting?

Good thread... Add that Godwin doesn't run good routes and Woerner was recruited as a WR technically.

Believe it or not I think it is 40% nerves, 20% talent, 20% speed, 10% intangibles, 10% QB touch in this game.
We need to recruit WR like we do RBs. Stack them high and deep. It really hurt us when we lost Robinson to the west coast. We need big time recruits that can take pressure off the other skill players.
Also lets not take anything away from OM's "D". They got physical with our receivers, which is something I wish we saw more of out of our "D".

Chigbu, Stanley, and Woerner are the prototypical wideouts, IMO. Longer arms, taller, more physical than Godwin, McKenzie or Davis. Maybe not as quick, but can go up and grab a ball.
Hopefully they continue to develop and contribute more before the season wraps up. Regardless, we still need to recruit more big time athletes at the position.

All of the above imo.
They're playing below their talent level right now (coaching), but we also need to get more talent there.

Coaching is always an issue whether related to recruiting or performance on the field. However, no receiver below 6' tall should be rated as a 4 star much less a 5 star unless they just have superior athletic ability. McKenzie might fall into that later category but the guy is just too small at 5-8 and doesn't catch the ball with his hands/poor technique.
But not matter how you spin it/rationalize, this ground has not been getting done on the field both in terms of creating separation and reliable catching.
Bottom line: taller, more athletic receivers is definitely part of the solution to UGA's offensive problems.

Going to Andrews for some knee work. Going from 80s technology to now. Gonna rent a place down there for a month. Been fishing there a lot with a UGA bud who lives in Gulf Breeze while going to appoints and MRIs and stuff. Love it there.

He's been hurt, hasn't he? The drops by Chigbu are very disturbing to me. WR was my position and when you lose confidence in your hands, it is a tough thing to overcome. I've seen people blame the drops on coaching, but you can't coach catching the ball. You can coach running routes, blocking technique...lots of stuff. But you either can catch, or you can't. With work it can be improved upon....but as a whole if someone can catch and they start dropping the ball they lose their confidence, and that is a BIG problem.

Other than catching the ball in a crowd height is not as important for a WR as it is for other positions. I knwo we are talking college, but when you look at the NFL these wide receivers are ALL under 6 feet tall:
Antonio Brown
Steve Smith
Desean Jackson
TY Hilton
Julian Edelman
Randall Cobb
Golden Tate and there are many, many more. Separation is MUCH more important. If a receiver can get open and has good hands I don't care if he is 5'4" tall.
Ok. that might be a stretch. Tall receivers are really good in the red zone....but TYPICALLY smaller receivers are quicker and have a better ability to get that all important separation.

A lot of our problems are the same Bobo/Shottenheimer syndrome. Pass on obvious passing downs. 3rd and long over and over.

Which raises the scary possibility that maybe we can't do it, or at least can't do it consistently.

Yeah it's tough to watch players like D-Rob and Van Jefferson having success and making noticeable impacts this early. I would like to see more west coast style play on early downs. Work the middle of the field with our TE's who are obviously talented and utilize Sony more in the passing game with swings, delays, and angle routes. I'm no coach and I know there is a lot of preparation and adjustments that go into running an offense, but oftentimes I'm positive that I could predict if we're running or passing by being blindfolded and only hearing the down and distance.

Demetrius Robertson would've been just what the Dr ordered, for our offensive woes. Sucks that he ended up at Berkeley.
