SIAP..
quote:
$8,950,000. This is the estimated amount of money Auburn athletics would owe Gus Malzahn should the university decide to terminate his contract as head football coach at the end of this season. However, that doesn't begin to summarize the financial responsibilty if Malzahn should be removed from his position following the 2016 campaign.
quote:
Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and defensive line coach Rodney Garner are scheduled to be paid an annual salary of $600,000 and $500,000 respectively per year until June 30, 2017. Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele signed a three-year contract and is scheduled to be paid $1.1 million annually. Four new position coaches including defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff ($500,000 salary per season), offensive line coach Herb Hand ($420,000 salary per season), wide receiver coach Kodi Burns ($350,000 salary per season) and linebackers coach Travis Williams ($225,000 salary per season) were given a two-year contracts. Therefore, if a decision on Malzahn's contract is made by the school, Auburn may be contractually obligated to fulfill the remaining salary due on all of these assistant coach contracts totaling an additional $4.845 million. Certain situations could affect the university's financial responsibility regarding these assistants depending on numerous factors including whether they're hired by another school in the subsequent offseason. However, this $4.845 million figure plus Malzahn's $8.95 million buyout totals a possible $13,795,000 in payments the school's athletics department would be responsible for if Malzahn is terminated after this season.

I'll be honest, unless the season really goes in the tank (4-8/3-9) I don't see a change happening this year.
The only reason I say that is the University president has already announced his retirement. If Auburn is smart (that is a different debate), and hires from outside the alumni base for the president, there is a good chance that new president will look to make a change at athletic director.
I can't see letting Jacobs fire Gus/hire a replacement and then in a year there be a new AD who isn't a fan of the new hire.

I don't get it. They lost to the eventual SEC Champs at home, and they were in it til the 4th quarter. They aren't as far away as they think they are.

Tennessee would owe Butch Jones $10 million if they fire him after the season when he loses to Florida, Bama, etc. Less Miles is 13 Million. Mark Stoops 12 Million...
Its the cost of doing business.
ETA: But while it is easy to create a trendy hashtag or an account dedicated to the firing of the head coach, actually letting Stoops go from his position would be a costly endeavor for the Wildcats.
$12 million is not pocket change. It is not easy to just hand over that kind of money to a coach as he walks out the door, especially when a replacement has to be hired. That does not even begin to take into account the additional payout that would be required for assistants on staff, which raises the buyout total to approximately $18 million for Kentucky

This is exactly why coaches should have 1 Million $ salaries and big bonus opportunities for success. Gus hasn't done shite with Auburn.

That was last year. The 2016 Iron Bowl hasn't happened yet.

This is it exactly. Sadly we're most likely stuck with the AD and HC until possibly the end of this decade.
