Did anyone else see shades of Alshon in Brian Edwards tonight?

Yessir. 8 catches for 101 yards against a good defense as a true freshman... That's actually really good.

I'll be honest... Saw Sidney Rice more than Alshon. Either would be great by me!

That's who I was telling my buddies that hadn't heard of him to think of.
He's gonna have a huge year

8 catches for 101 yards tonight. he is next level talent.
...and to all y'all Gamecocks carrying the banner here on the rant tonight....
I got way too many things goin through my head about this game, but the best thing is Carolina exorcised some demons from all the way back to 2014 tonight. I thought it might would take a couple games this season to do that, but we're ahead of schedule
so many things to talk about but I'll just leave it with this ...
the Defense: 242 total yards. 4/15 on 3rd down. 44:28 of scoreless football.

He was our go to guy when we needed one, that 3rd and long catch down the sideline was simply incredible.
The win will make my trip to Starkville a lot more enjoyable next weekend, at least all the way up until kickoff

Edwards is probably better than Alshon at this stage ... Alshon came in overweight and didn't have a breakout game until further into the season.
Alshon didn't have the YAC potential that Edwards appears to have when he was a freshman either IMHO.
To me, and I realize this is just an early observation, but to me Edwards, so far at least, has a little bit of both Sidney and Alshon in him ... but with more maturity than either of those had as true freshmen.

I will NEVER forget Watching Alshon go off against Kentucky his freshman year. The light came on for him in a huge way that day.
I think Edwards has ridiculous potential. He is strong and pretty slick with the ball in his hands.

Edwards’ debut actually dwarfs Jeffery’s. The Conway High alum posted eight catches for 101 yards against the Commodores and converted a couple of key third downs. Jeffery didn’t start until halfway through his first season and managed one catch in his first game.
Edwards’ numbers stand out even when put against the debuts of Gamecock greats Pharoh Cooper (no catches), Ace Sanders (two catches, 47 yards), Bruce Ellington (didn’t register a catch until his third game) and Sidney Rice (five catches, 70 yards, 1 TD).
From the State. Just for comparison.

Speaking of Cooper ... if you watch Deebo's running style, his body type, they way he runs his routes, etc., and he is very reminiscent of Cooper. That's not reaching either. I've rewatched that Vandy game a few times now and Edwards and Deebo could be one of the more potentially potent pair of WRs we've had at the same time in a long time. Thinking that we might add a couple more big time WRs to go with those two in this next class is encouraging.
Watch Deebo, then go back and watch film of Cooler his freshman and sophomore years and there are a lot of similarities. I'm hoping the light continues to come-on for Deebo and let's remember, Deebo doesn't have Shaw or Thompson throwing him the ball.

Deebo can get open, he showed that during the game, but he can't keep dropping balls. I remember 2 specifically that hit him in the hands.

You're right ... not cool for WRs to do that but they'll do it sometimes. I may be wrong, but I think it was just one drop that he really should have caught. I think Smith had like three maybe and he's in the doghouse for it now.
We'll probably use our TEs and H-Backs more this coming Saturday. Hurst, Crosby, ... we've got to get our offensive numbers up somehow.
