I don't have much experience with Mac's so my initial answer is, "you might be shite out of luck" however...I then stumbled upon this answer:

I do not use my Macbook as much with the battery as I do plunged in. It is about three years old now and I just have not seen a lot of issues with it on the battery. I guess if I used if more on battery power I would see that.
