WR is going to be scary with some true freshmen running around.
Gus' system with a QB who has a rocket arm just needs Ted Ginn WRs to blow the top off coverage to be a successful passing attack. It is why Coates and Louis both have succeeded despite having brick hands like Ginn.

It will be much easier to find a competent QB for the next 10 years than it will be to try and bring Cam and Nick back again and again.
We don't need to find Nick or Cam, we just need to go scouting for kids who can hurl a football 60+ yards reasonably accurate.

quote:You do this. No quarterback on roster is the answer, though.
Or do you take the lesser of the QBs and run the offense you prefer?
Although, John Franklin III is clearly the fastest runner Gus Malzahn has had at quarterback, his arm strength is nowhere near that of Cam Newton and Nick Marshall.

Yep, we (Gus) need(s) a kid who can throw the ball a country mile and can read a blitz. SW wasn't built for this offense but he is the best QB on the roster and puts us in the best position to win games.

I guess that puts us back to the question can Gus build an offense that works for White. I think he can, but I also thought JJ was going to be a hero.

I'd argue that if SW is only wins us 1-2 more games, I'd rather us not change the offense to fit White.
It is a core philosophy change which is too drastic for 1-2 wins

How many wins do you think we get with JFIII at the helm? Keep in mind he has throws the worst deep ball since Brandon Cox and opposing teams will stack the box and press the shite out of our WRs

Brandon Cox

At least with John Franklin III, he can counter the lack of pass protection Auburn will display from two new offensive tackles. Gus Malzahn can run an offense close to what we saw with Nick Marshall and Cam Newton. And it also opens up running lanes better for Jovon Robinson, etc.

quote:Not even close. JFIII cant throw a deep ball even close to what those two could. JFIII will be a disaster of a Qb if chosen to lead the team this year. At least with Sean we will have a chance in every game.

Let's keep in mind, Nick Marshall wasn't a good passer in 2013. He had a big arm, yes, but his mechanics and accuracy were way off. He was more of an athlete, a point guard, running the position.

NM had years of experience playing the QB position. JFIII has what, half a season splitting time at JUCO?
And yes, JFIII has zero accuracy on deep throws. Hell, he one hopped Roc on a ten yard swing pass. Might as well trot out Rudy Ford to play Qb or one of the other fast guys, cause you know, Gus only needs a fast mobile Qb to win championships LOL. Why not start Jason Smith? He is fast and mobile. No love for him as our Qb?

quote:Yes, Nick Marshall had experience at the position. He started at least 3 years in high school, 1 year in Junior College and 2 years at Auburn. People don't understand he was a quarterback basically his entire life.

John Franklin III was a quarterback during the 2013 season at Florida State on the scout team (he was "Nick Marshall" before FSU played Auburn in the BCSNCG), and he was also a quarterback during the 2014 season at Florida State (played a little receiver towards the end of the season). I'm willing to bet he would've started in Junior College if their starter didn't return. He also played high-school quarterback, although I'm unsure of how many years he started.
In short, both have been quarterbacks and Nick Marshall had no more experience when he got to Auburn when compared to JFIII.
quote:deep throw =/= 10 yard swing pass.
And yes, JFIII has zero accuracy on deep throws. Hell, he one hopped Roc on a ten yard swing pass
I'm sure I could cherry pick bad throws by all quarterbacks in a game that doesn't matter.

You do realize Jason Smith was switched to receiver shortly after he got to campus, right? JFIII is still at quarterback, right?

This is what you just posted. Plus, playing a back up role in JUCO is not the same as being the starting Qb for an entire season like NM did. Its not the same, like, at all. Didnt NM break high school records as well at Qb ? Seems i remember something to that effect.
NM also weighs 20 more pound. JFIII will break like a twig within three games if we have to rely primarily on his legs to win.

Do you remember that quarterback for Troy a couple seasons ago? Corey Robinson? He threw for over 90 touchdowns his senior year in high-school. In one season. 90 touchdowns.

Sean White isn't athletic enough to run the read-option and help it thrive in Auburn's offense. He's just not. That's why he finished the season with 35 rushing yards. He's also not durable enough to do it which is why he sustained a knee injury and had to sit out.

Seems irrelevant considering Jameis Winston, Jacob Coker and Clint Trickett (2013) were in front of him. A Heisman winner, a CFB Playoff winner and a guy that went on to start at West Virginia.
Common sense tells me he didn't deserve to be on the field with them in front of him, and just so you're paying attention, Sean White wouldn't have seen the field either.

Not sure I agree with this. Urban Meyer ran an entirely different offense with Braxton Miller/JT Barrett at the helm as opposed to Cardale Jones. A great coach can adjust his offense to the talent he has.
Again, my opinion is that SW could certainly run a similar offense to what Gus put together for Ryan Aplin at Ark St., no?
