So just based on those two facts alone there is nowhere to go but up.

That's pretty far from true.

How so?

Treon was one of the worst qb's in SEC history. Just because he beat UGA twice doesn't mean that he was a capable qb.

Plenty of room to win less than 10 games.

I just don't see how anyone can claim that McElwain is increasing the level of talent on the roster when its clear that Florida has lost more talent to the NFL the past two seasons than any other SEC program... including Alabama!

No one is arguing that you can't improve on the offensive side of the ball. What is being stated is that right now your *roster* is on the treadmill moving in a negative direction unless at least one of the following is true a) Mac and crew are flat out better talent evaluators than recruiting sites, other programs in the SEC, etc and/or b) the onfield coaching will be so good that the majority of the players that have averaged out to about 8th best (or bottom half) recruiting classes in the SEC will "outperform" their anticipated ability level.

I don't think your secondary will be half as good as last year. but I'm not in on the replacement guys. If that remains a strength Florida will be in the hunt

The last year Florida had a weak secondary was 2007.

Passing Defense

2015: 182.1 (13)
2014: 213.2 (42)
2013: 171.8 (7)
2012: 192.2 (16)
2011: 166.8 (6)
2010: 175.9 (12)
2009: 151.9 (2)
2008: 179.9 (20)

We return Jalen Tabor, who will likely be the #1 corner taken in the draft. Safe to say we will be all right

UF has had 15 players drafted in two years. I assure you that the talent level could go down from there.

For one thing, UF has been loaded on defense, and it has shown on the field. There is no guarantee of that continuing.

An outstanding corner...still not good enough to cover both sides of the field at the same time.

Your secondary lost two first round NFL picks. You may be "all right", but you probably won't be as good back there as you were last year.

UF hasn't had a defense ranked out of the top 20 since 2007.

Last year you also had neal and VH added with Tabor

I guess Tabor alone is better than all 3

... and has had elite talent on defense since then. Urban, Strong, Muschamp, and Durkin could recruit at an elite level. It remains to be seen if McElwain can continue that, but it doesn't appear that way so far.

2007 and 2016 were the last two times that Florida has had 4 defensive players drafted in the first 4 rounds (with 2 first rounders).

Let me put it in the classic SECrant way

UF stacked
UG and UT fricked

Florida will improve on offense.

Why? Your QB situation looks suspiciously like LSU's.

Once Grier went down your offense looked pretty bad. He won't be back. So, why would it improve? I'm being serious and not trolling. I really don't know that much about Florida.

There is a whole bunch of ignorance in this thread. Tabor is another first round db.

While true, you had him last year. And you had Hargreaves. One of those is gone, so I can see why your secondary could take a step back.

Our secondary will be fine. Hargreaves isn't that big of a loss considering he didn't do a whole hell of a lot last year and our replacements are pretty good.

Did it ever occur to you that teams might have been throwing away from him? Without him there it will open the field up to other teams. He was drafted 7th overall, so it wasn't like he had no talent, right? He was better than "pretty good".

it can't get much worse than having Treon Harris at QB.

Maybe not. but it could stay the same. At one time you thought it couldn't get worse than Driskell. Guess what?

Del Rio should be a big improvement.

Why? he might not be an improvement at all.

While true, over 25 years the last 5 years we have a 3-2 advantage, so.....

Yes. Florida could win the East. I see it as:

Tennessee
Florida
Georgia

They're my pick because they'll beat Georgia again and UT will shite the bed as usual.

And in one recruiting class all this was fixed? You guys must have had a killer class, right?

Between the draft and transfer losses...UF has been un-stacked. Now they are more "scattered".
