I'm gonna go inaccurate here and say Gene Stallings
He averaged almost 11 wins per season over his last six years.
Bobby Ross wasn't a bad coach either. There have been much worse to win a NC.

I thought he went 5-7 or 4-8 this year, not 3-9. Although starting up a new program is rather difficult.

Chizik is the worst. 6 total seasons. 3 with 3 wins or less.
Bernie Oosterbaan at Michigan was almost as bad. Won the NC his first season. Never more than seven games in any other, and had eight seasons with six or fewer wins.

Well Pat Dye has gone on record, NUMEROUS TIMES, and stated that "one Gene Chizik is better than 10 Nick Saban's".. The entire Auburn fanbase whole-heatedly agreed which unequivocally PROVES that Saban is the worst and the Chiz was the best!!
Sad that Auburn fired him.. I shed a few tears that day..

Thanks for reminding me of this. Pat Dye is no dummy, but he has made idiotic statements in the past and this has to be #1. He also said Neil Callaway would build UAB into a winner which would have to come in second to the one you mentioned.
I would include "Georgia isn't man enough to beat Bama" circa 2003 among those things but he was just trying to fire Georgia up to beat Bama and simultaneously trolling our fanbase. It was actually a genius move.

I'm gonna go sacrilegious here and say Gene Stallings. Outside of 92 he was meh. 91 we were 11-1 but won a lot 10-7 games. 94 we went 12-1 but lost to a florida team in the SECCG we should have beaten by two touchdowns.
Had everybody back in 93 from 92 team and I don't think we finished in top 25 (he kinda gets a pass on injuries in 93) 96 we lose to a dreadful state team and got absolutely rung up by florida in the SECCG. During his tenure I was afraid bama was getting satisfied with 10 wins. Expectations had dropped off since the Perkins days. U get what u expect. I just think after 92 he kinda rode it out till retirement. Dubose sucked but people don't understand how crappy Stallings had recruited in the years after the nc. Solid coach but had no business winning a natty.
Shut your fricking whore mouth, grab a shotgun, then open your whore mouth just long enough to stick the barrel in and blow open your completely empty head.
