The troubles off of the field continue for Kirby Smart and Georgia’s football program. They have to deal with yet another arrest.

Sophomore defensive back Juwuan Briscoe was booked on two misdemeanor charges, including driving without a license and not wearing a seatbelt, according to Athens Clarke-County jail logs. Briscoe was booked at 9:07pm and released at 10:11pm on a $500 bond on each charge.

As a freshman, Briscoe saw limited time, only recording five tackles. However, shuffling within the defensive backfield, Briscoe had a legitimate chance to claim a starting role.

There is currently no statement released by the University of Georgia on the situation, and whether a suspension will be given is not known at this time.

Not wearing a seatbelt = stupid, but no big deal.

Driving without a license = stupid ... just ... stupid.

Some states it's a mandatory arrest for driving without a license, I'm not sure if Ga is one of them though.

It is. Generally speaking, I think the rationale is that for moving violations that would potentially be problematic, surrendering the license is how you would avoid arrest at that time. With no license, no alternative.

It's a poor decision on his part but should his miss any potential game time for it? I wouldn't think so.

Driving with a suspended license is instant arrest. Driving without having your valid drivers license on you is a no license on person ticket which as of 4 years ago in GA was a $10 ticket. So if his license isn't suspended he was taken to jail for $25 total in tickets. Yep there is nothing wrong at all with UGA/ACCP handling of students...

I wonder if Eason or Ben Cleveland would of been in this situation if they would of gotten arrested or let go with a warning?

Seems like this is a bullshite arrest to begin with, regardless if it involves a UGA player or not. Why arrest someone not having the license on them and no seat belt? That is just a waste of resources, the cops time, the players time, the courts time and everything else. All of that takes up our tax money and again is just bull. What happened to giving him a ticket or just a warning?

I got a ticket before for not having my current insurance card in my car ( I could not find it when I got pulled over, but the cop was able to confirm I had insurance by radioing it in) but that was stupid to begin with, as I could look it up on my phone or call them if needed.

Also my brother got arrested one time for speeding! He wasn't even going over 24 MPH which is where they can take your license away (or something like that). He was speeding up to make a red light, but the thing was it was like at midnight (he was getting off work) and no one else was riding on the roads, not that it makes it any better.

An arrest like this looks like a money grab more than anything so I doubt it.

He'll go to court, present his license (assuming he actually has one), and the whole thing gets swept under the rug. And that's not because he's a football player. I've seen it happen several times with average Joes. It's just the way it works and, unfortunately, the law is that he has to be arrested for not having it.

Local police have way to much time on their hands, time to layoff some overhead.

I wonder why he was stopped to begin with? No seatbelt?

I would assume. He was arrested on campus at like 9pm so you wouldn't think it'd be for speeding or drunk driving (which, obviously he wasn't driving drunk).

No, it's not. Nothing in the Georgia code requires an arrest for driving without a license on person (which we're all assuming is the charge here, as opposed to not having a license in the first place). It's up to the officer's discretion. In most jurisdictions the officer will give you a ticket and let you call someone to pick you up.
