Bear's record is pretty remarkable. Although he never beat Neyland, I still consider him the best.

Fun fact: Butch's career win % as a HC is better than McElwain's

The Lord and Savior could be coach at Kentucky and unless Dooley is on the other sideline he ain't beating Tennessee either.

I don't think Miles gets in the Hall.
He would need one more National Title IMO.

I thought the same thing at first as well, but if you'll look at the requirements, all that's required is winning 60% of your games if you've coached 100 games. Les' winning percentage, # of wins, and one national title are more than enough. Charlie McClendon is in the HOF, and Miles has already surpassed his career numbers

Winning 1 national title accompanied with >1 SEC Title and a really high win % is something not a lot of folks have.
It's unlikely that Saban (or any other great coach) would surpass what Miles has done at LSU... it's generally accepted that Alabama is the historically dominant program in the SEC, and that Florida has the most potential resources to challenge/supplant the Tide.
When Saban was at LSU, both Alabama and Florida were in down cycles; Tennessee and then Georgia were the dominant East teams, and LSU and Auburn (with some Arkansas years) were the dominant West teams. Saban basically was the co-equal to Tuberville at Auburn, with the exception that he won a BCS title (although Tuberville got an undefeated season, something Saban didn't get at LSU).
During Miles' time at LSU, Alabama and Florida both rose back up and won multiple national titles, and yet Miles was able to maintain the LSU progam at a consistently high level, and won another SEC title while facing the highest competition.
Anyone (disgruntled LSU fans, mocking Tide fans, etc) who try to use the loss to Alabama in the 2011 rematch for the BCS title to belittle Miles, seriously needs to reconsider things. Those '11 LSU and Alabama teams were head-and-shoulders above the rest of college football that season (Arkansas might have actually been the 3rd best team in the country, let alone the SEC), and both LSU and Bama blew them out. LSU was able to go into a hostile road game at Bama and win a game in OT, against possibly the best opponent anyone could face. That rematch loss doesn't mean LSU wasn't any good, it merely emphasizes just how good Alabama was that year too.

yeah, Spurrier had some really nice things to say about Neyland last weekend. He's definitely one of the all-time greats, yet I feel like most casual fans aren't even aware of that.

During Saban's first two years at LSU Florida won the SEC in 2000 and played for the East in the final game of the year against Tennessee in 2001. They also beat Saban 3 of the 5 times they played. Florida wasn't winning national titles, but they were definitely plenty competitive in the East.

Wow, I, now, actually hope both teams are undefeated, ranked 1 & 2 for the game (GOTC#?) . The build up with both teams having their bye week prior, SEC, CFPO both on the line; Saban going for win #200 at Tiger Stadium in a primetime game. Wow, Gary and Verne will be unbearable but damn what a great setting that would be.

Yes, he does have 196 "on the field". But unfortunately we had to vacate those five wins in 2007.

The NCAA doesn't recognize it. That's what I'm going with.
