NCAA tournament trivia...

How about a thread where posters post bits of NCAA tournament trivia that they find interesting?
For example, the first team with 5 black starters that won the NC was Texas Western, in El Paso. That remains the only NCAA tourney championship by any Texas school.
Here's another: the highest scoring SEC player in tourney history is Corliss Williamson with 303 points.

A double digit seed has made it to the sweet 16 8 years in a row.

A&M had the first and only all gay basketball team.
More you know.

The last time a Texas team won the tournament was Texas Western in 1966, against Kentucky.

According to a Vegas guy on the radio today, Tulsa, considered to be the last team in, would be an underdog to at least 8 NIT teams on a neutral court.

Kentucky leads the country with most NCAA Tournament bids at 55. Arkansas is the next closest SEC school with 30.

That's hard to believe!

I'm sure it's been a while since a team with the eventual number pick missed the tourney.

I just ran across this one:
89 players who played high school ball in Texas are playing in the 2016 NCAA tourney. That leads all states. California is in second, with 82.
New York/North Carolina/Illinois are in 3rd with 52.
The next highest SEC state is Georgia with 35.

Well A&M, BU, tu, TTU, SFA, & TSU all made it so that probably helps.

There are more final fours for coaches of Italian descent than any other cultural background.

11 of the past 12 champions have worn a shade of blue.
It actually goes back to 21 of the past 26. Lots of good basketball teams wear blue.

The state of California has won more titles than any other state, but hasn't won one since 1995.

The Wizard of Westwood won 10 national championships in 12 years. Check fricking mate.

The national championship game has been between teams from the same conference three times. This is odd to me because there are regional bases of basketball power.
1988: Oklahoma vs. Kansas
1985: Villanova vs. Georgetown
1976: Indiana vs. Michigan
