How did Chizik destroy Auburn identity of having a tough defense when he was and is a good defensive coordinator? Maybe the things that transpired weren't as much his fault as people think.

Who else is there to blame?

The difference in defensive identity between 2008 and 2009 alone is staggering. We went 5-7 in 2008 and because we had a stout defense, we were just a few points away from having a good season. Seriously. People like to reflect on 2008 as if it was just like 2012, but if you check the game logs, Auburn was in most games late in the 4th quarter.

Blaming Jacobs for making bad hires and contracts is one thing, but Chizik and company did the actual coaching. I'm not sure who else could be at fault.

I've consider this, and I'm sure AU fans have as well. Could it be that the offense AU implemented when hiring Chizik destroyed AU's defense?

I certainly don't know, but Gene Chizik is a fantastic defensive coach.
