Is basketball hard to coach?

I mean it isn't much going on. I get some set plays and when to make substitutions. But I am thinking that it really boils down to player talent, knowing when to sub and call timeouts, and whether or not your players trust and respond to everything you say. There isn't that many moving parts, one great player can make your team a contender and it's just not a difficult game like football.
Don't flame the thread, I am just getting insight from basketball knowledgable fans. Love basketball, but I am just curious if it isn't just player talent and players buying in and respecting you as a person and coach.

Player talent only gets you so far with mediocre coaching (see: Texas A&M)

It is definitely a skill that some have and some don't.
I wouldn't say it's hard, but it definitely isn't easy.

Yes. That's why everyone does it and wins championships

I'm willing to bet Saban would do well as a basketball coach. He would bring great talent in.

I am just looking at champions and almost every one of them has at least one great player on their squad. Especially in the NBA when most have one of the greatest of all time players on their championship teams.

Great players tend to win titles in any sport.

Past champions have the following: Spurs have the best power forward of all time, a point guard that's one of the best and probably he best all around player in the league. The heat have Lebron, bosh AND D wade. Lakers have Kobe, Gasoline and some with Shaq. Mavericks had Dirk and good role players. Bulls with Jordan and Scottie, sprinkle in Horace grant, and the best rebounder of all time. Lakers/Celtics in the 80's had the greatest players and rosters of all time. I am just really just asking. Seems to add up to great players and very respected coaches that know subs and how to command respect.

Football is much harder to coach and it's pretty rare for one player to carry 22 players to a championship. Don't compare basketball to football, please. I am just asking an honest question.

Exhibits A and B should answer your question:
Exhibit A: Pat Summitt at Tennessee.
Exhibit B: Holly Warlick at Tennessee. Holly takes over a championship program that has more talent on the floor than 99 percent of the teams we play - we even have Diamond Deshields. Holly's teams suck. BADLY.

It's tough to coach, but it seems a lot easier for a mediocre coach to sort of hide behind very good players in basketball than it is in football. If you're a bad basketball coach, you can still make the dance with a talented roster, but if you're a bad coach in football, you're most likely gonna be gangbanged by the teams on your schedule regardless, especially in the SEC where most teams have a lot of talent.

Exactly what I am getting at. You can hide behind elite talent and one player can put you in contention every year. I don't know why I am getting downvotes. I figured it would be a good debate.

While it's possible to field decent teams with mediocre or subpar coaches, it doesn't mean it's easy to be a good coach. Even if there are a decent amount of teams you can beat with talent alone, when it comes time to start facing other talented teams, if your coaching staff can't make adjustments and substitute wisely, you're gonna have a bad time. Maybe you can make the tourney with meh coaching, but you're very unlikely to make it farther than the first weekend.
