I've said it on the rant thread, but everything that's comes out points to Allen being one of the divisive characters in the locker room. This ultimately falls on the head guy, but it's funny he would blast it when he was clearly in Spav's corner and there seemed to be an active Allen vs Murray war going on.

No doubt, but this never would happen under any coach that has control of the locker room.

I've only skimmed it but the words bitch and pussy have been used probably 1700 times. They've also turned on Herman, saying he's behind this. Guess the premium posters aren't hiring him next year :-(

The "Tom Herman Going After A&M" thread is my favorite.

Oh I agree. I'm not trying to defend Sumlin in that, and I still don't blame Allen for transferring. But he's kind of calling out himself in this too

Had to go to the kitchen and make some popcorn for the schism made between the "Herman wants Sumlin fired to take over!!!" party, and the "Herman is already embracing sip culture!!!" group.

The thing is, it doesn't matter if Herman is going after A&M if it's TRUE. Herman may well be going after A&M. The real issue is that it's TRUE. It's not symptomatic of Johnny, who is long gone, it's symptomatic of Sumlin. He isn't in control of/doesn't interact with the locker room, has lax discipline and is pretty lazy.

Les Miles has complete control over the LSU locker room, and I will never forget the Jordan Jefferson/Jarrett Lee saga.

Unfortunately that plagued my 3 years at LSU.

one could also say it wouldn't happen to a QB that the locker room respected so...

Oh, I agree. Just makes me laugh that people are calling Herman a dirty guy for going after us.

We are the ones giving other programs a loaded gun to point right at us.

I get your point, but neither QB transferred and publicly berated the culture at LSU. Allen has done it publicly, and TA reported Murray did it in Mark Jackson recruitment.

also, its amusing that he is saying this is stuff that happened b/c of the Manziel era when Allen WASNT ON THE TEAM WITH JOHNNY.

Maybe, maybe not. There is a decent amount of evidence that our locker room culture and general laid back environment was an asset in recruiting in compared to other coaches that were more demanding. We were happy to celebrate that on the NSDs when they signed the dotted line because we saw enough players from Sherman's classes that had a lot of will but not enough talent.

It is a catch 22 really. Either you be player friendly and appeal to the recruits (thereby allowing underperformance) or the elite talent goes somewhere else (with a better history or better bagmen) and beats you. Only Bama has a strong enough reputation to tell kids what they don't want to hear and still sign them.

Mack Brown did the same thing Sumlin did and it took a once-in-a-lifetime QB to bring the talent on that team together and make them play up to their potential. I hoped the same for us, but instead we got an Allen who is tearing the program apart. At some level it is just bad luck.

I mean yes Sumlin has to take a lot of blame, but it would be downright short bus of us to claim that we could recruit so well without Sumlin's smoke and mirrors (or that we don't need good recruits in the SEC). It is a brutal Catch 22 that we can't just buy our way out of unfortunately.
