This. At this point, we're seeing a real crisis not a stunt.

Why are charges not being filed?

I've always respected Johnny for his high-caliber football playing in College. He brought some excitement into the game and he pulled off some highlight-worthy stuff, man. It was real fun to watch. I always hoped that I could see him do great things in the NFL, but at this point Johnny Manziel the person is holding Johnny Manziel the football player back in every sense of the phrase.
All these boneheaded decisions of his will come back to get him one way or another. The money and all the chances will run out for him eventually. I just hope that he can get some type of help and get his head screwed on straight sometime soon before it's too late.
As for this case, if the reports are true that he beat up his girlfriend and threatened to kill her and himself, then we really have a problem here. No excuse for this type of behavior.

She didn't want the neighbor to call so it's possible she hasn't pressed charges. In a case where there's no physical marks (such as when you smack, shove, or choke someone etc.) they really need the victim to press charges for them to do anything. An uncooperative victim and no visual marks like say a bloody nose or black eye is a case where charges are rarely pressed because the case has nothing and prosecution will fail (prosecutors won't even bother).
Also, if Johnny is suicidal she could feel that pressing charges could tip him over the edge. Police involvement might be the worst thing that could happen in this case. DV cases are messy because there's usually a lot of emotion involved.

A possible domestic violence victim can not press or drop charges - only a DA can do that. Once a report is filed with the system, it's no longer a private family matter. Yes, the prosecutor probably needs the victim to cooperate with testimony but the victim has no say on whether a prosecution proceeds.
And just because there are no visible marks does not preclude an act of abuse.
An unbiased contemporaneous witness who calls 911 can be a very strong piece of evidence for a DA, especially with a reluctant to testify victim.

I'm not saying it does just that when there are no visible marks and an uncooperative witness there's no viable case and prosecutors often don't bother pursuing the matter in that situation because it's so difficult to win a case like that.
At any rate, someone just mentioned that she has pressed charges so it's a moot discussion at this point.
