What a comeback ... been missing those for a couple of seasons. Hopefully, as Fitt wrote, the old swagger and mojo are back.

This weekend will be huge. RPI #4 Carolina vs RPI #5 Ole Miss. This past weekend was strange pitching wise. Even though the stats may not suggest it, Clarke's command was there on Friday. The guy is a stud. Webb still walking a few but got around them in an outing that impressed. Hill may have gotten a bad shake on some calls. I couldn't see as well as I could have, socializing and trying not to freeze to death but he seemed like he had quite a few pitches that could have gone either way. Seems like the type that will use that as motivation moving forward.

We opened the SEC season with a ranked team at home, and now we'll be playing a Top10 team on the road. We'll find out the cut of our teeth very soon.

Not as much of a jump as I thought we might ... but it's enough. Slow and steady climb - we've got plenty of time to move up.
Still, I was expecting us to move up a little more.

D1 Jumped Clemson ahead of us because of the head to head results.

Interesting. I feel as if baseball pollsters are usually the least reactive to head to head results.

Huge performance on the road by Braden Webb & series win!

This team has the pitching of the early 2000s 38th the killer Bs. If the bats keep up it has the potential to be a special season. Holbrook may have found a groove as well (or he has an earpiece with Ray telling him what to do)

Still a lot of season left, but I've been really impressed with the Pitching, up to this point in time.
Reagan's post game interview last night was epic. He said he worked really hard in the offseason, and in the weight room b/c "I didn't want to suck anymore."

The sweep is complete! Gamecocks win 4-0.

With the shut out today the total for the series was 19-6. I'm not sure if anybody knew how good this pitching staff was but they are showing us what they are all about. Also according to my source, Will Crowe is red shirting this year so the future most definitely looks bright for this squad. Keep it up and bring on Florida in April.

One series at a time ... the SEC is a total beast this year. CofC this week then at Vandy next weekend - we've still got our work cut-out for us, but we sure gotta like this start so far. It's a lot better than any other alternative for sure.

Not sure what's going on with the SECSports stats, but I think they are off. I usually post the weekly team and individual stats each week on the main board, but I just noticed something really odd.
Going into yesterday's game, we had an ERA under 2.50. We pitched a shutout, 0 runs allowed, and our ERA jumped to 3.00...So that doesn't make math-sense. I checked the gamecocksonline.com baseball stats, and it says our ERA is close to 2.22...which would make more sense. Gamecocksonline also had our batting avg closer to .210, and SECSports has it closer to .238, which would've been a HUGE jump from Friday's avg's as well, and it's not like we allowed 20 hits yesterday.

Just pretty odd, it's not even like the stats are .001 off because of some rounding error, they're very different. B/c of the huge jump in ERA and Opposing Batting Avg from how the stats appeared on SECSports yesterday, before our game, I would think that the error is on their end. A Team's ERA shouldn't jump .5+ points after pitching a shutout.

CIYE, they are now only listing stats in sec play instead of year long stats

They have it corrected now with All Games and not just SEC games.

Things are going really well right now (knocks on wood.) Hopefully they keep up this way. This weekend against Vandy on the road is a statement series.
Regardless, up to this point in time, I think we've had the most drastic change in trajectory of any D1 baseball team from the past season to our present form.

Yeah they're doing so well they make me nervous. It's great that the young guys play so well. I just hope that one or two bad outings (which happens to everyone) won't rattle their cage too much.

Well we did put up only 1 run in the final two games against the taters. It's not like we have had a complete primrose path thus far or anything.
