Sounds like a comment from a guy who grew up with Depression era dirt farmers and felt more connection with poor black kids from the Black Belt than middle and upper class white kids from the Birmingham and Montgomery country clubs.

Well then you're an idiot. Thirty years ago and back the vast majority of blacks weren't educated, had a substandard living environment, had low paying jobs, or none at all, and came from single parent homes. Most folks of even average intelligence would call that having "nothing to go back to".
