Obviously, the Carolina Panthers are/were the best team this year. 17-1, 10 Pro Bowlers, 8 All Pros, soon to be League MVP, Riverboat Ron, etc....

However, who was the 2nd best team? Was it Denver or the Cardinals? I think the Cardinals were the 2nd best team. They had the 2nd best record and Palmer was a lot better than Manning this year.

Denver's defense is nasty. It has to be them. Carolina is far and away the best, though.

The Panthers should have lost to the Giants

You want an honest opinion? I believe the Bengals have the most talented team in the NFL and would have been in the Super Bowl if Dalton hadn't gotten injured.

Denver is way overrated. They didn't even clinch the playoffs until the last week of the season.

There was a scenario involving the AFC North and AFC West in the last week or two of the season where Denver was either going to be the 1 seed or miss the playoffs altogether.

i think the cards, pats, and Bengals all hold a tie to being capable of being the #2 team.

Denver was a very above average team that played inspired ball down the stretch.

ETA: not degrading Denver. they're my #2 team behind the idiots in Dallas i've cheered for for 30+ years. but facts is facts. average team as a whole that played lights out for 3 weeks in a row. Von Miller is a man among boys.

It wasn't the Cowboys, that's for certain.

Carolina - the proof is not in ratings, stats, clinching dates or even win totals - the playoffs determine the best team on the field, just as they would with an 8 or 16 team field in college ball
