An elite QB has been the "missing piece". An elite kicker has been the "missing piece". With Saban's last 5 recruiting classes being ranked #1 , why is he still having to search for these missing pieces?

Because those are by far the hardest positions to scout. The most mental positions in the game.

AJM was an elite QB. Griffith and Tiffin were/are very good college kickers by the end of their careers.

Cade Foster was miserable.

Well the "missing pieces" were those that prevented NCs in 2010, 2013, and 2014. Add those and you get seven national championships in a row for Alabama. The "pieces" missing can't have been very big...apparently.

I wonder if depending on an "elite" QB rather than a cross-the-team effort would be counterproductive?
