Why does Saban have so much trouble stopping legit, dynamic DT QBs?

I was watching last night and kept thinking back to JFF and Cordale Jones and was pissed that we still can't stop guys like this. Its not like these guys are supermen. What is funny is that legit fans of the SEC know that Chavis' LSU defense would have wrecked shop on Watson just like they did Manziel. What does Chavis do so differently that snuffs those type of guys out?

It's not just Saban. It always gets me when people say that.
Everyone has trouble stopping legit, dynamic QBs.

Kirby's defense is beautiful against certain teams, and frustrating versus others. Hopefully with Bama's talent Pruitt can evolve it in a way to shut down these teams.

Because dynamic players are good. And considering his record at Bama is something stupid like 100-18 I think his better at stopping the opposing team's quarterback than anyone else.

Because he still refuses to play straight up man coverage. He prefers creating the perfect package to defend with. Ask LSU.
Also, give credit to Deshaun. Our coverage on most of their TDs was as good as could be expected, the passes were just better.

Because it is really hard to stop elite talent that can do the kinds of things these kids can do. Everyone struggles with it. Bama fans just think it strange that it applies to them to.

LSU didn't with chavis. that is the truth.

Most QBs who play well against Saban later on play in the NFL.

uhh bama plays predominantly "straight up man coverage."

Well, JFF was a beast in college... He killed everyone...
Cordale Jones didn't have very much game tape to examine his tendencies.
Watson is a beast... I thought Bama did okay... He made some spectacular throws on the run last night. I mean the dude escaped the pocket like 4 or 5 times when I thought it was going to be a sack...

It was arguably his greatest flaw at TN. We dreaded facing running QBs.

according to BamaScoop he has conquered the spread and those types of QB's..

Simple answer, defensive coverages do not count the QB as a threat.
You can "spy" the QB with a player like a LB but then you have to drop a DL to take his spot in the hook or flat zone he was supposed to cover.

Hell, Mizzou locked Manziel's arse down in 2013...
Held him to 216 total yards and 1 td.

You misunderstand. I'm not just talking DB's. You man up across the board and put a hat on the QB and RB on every play with the read option regardless of who takes the handoff. But that was not really the issue last night. Watson was incredibly precise. Watch LSUs games against JFF back in the day. No cutesy plays, just punishment.

I'm aware of what man coverage is, thanks.
