It was at game time. Scalpers fricked everything up by overpromising supply, which had everyone going nuts trying to buy last minute. I sold two upperdeckers for $5k a week before the game.

I heard a story from my friend that his uncle or something sold tickets for like $3000 for that game

We got offered 12k for two by some entity claiming to be associated with Stubhub the day before the game. As I recall there were major shortages from companies with lots of guaranties and exposure and the prices skyrocketed as a result.
They were already pretty high (I almost pulled the trigger on 2 for about 3500 before getting them through a connection for face) in the weeks leading up to the game.
