Thanks for the responses.
I've had Apple TV for a couple years in addition to cable. Mostly to play sports on a tv out on the back deck where there is no cable connection. The problem though, is all the apps that I use on my phone or iPad to play through appletv are free only because I have a cable subscription. And so if dump cable, I lose the apps. And have to buy them individually.
Also, I won't lie. The shite freezes up and acts weird pretty constantly.
Is Apple TV like the Roku and Amazon fire stick deal?
Also, for those using an antenna is that what I'm imagining? ....a scratchy non-HD reception that only comes in at night and if you add tin foil to it?

The signal is digital. You either get a clear picture or you don't.
