Bert's coaching hires are eerily similar to Nolan Richardson's system hubris.

Starting center at Michigan.
Offensive line coach and running game coordinator for a college team that had great success running the ball.
Offensive line coach for NFL team that had great success running the ball.
Has worked with TE's before.
Sorry, I just don't see how not being from the south and not having SEC experience is any sort of significant negative. You think a recruit will be like "This school is great. Close to home, good academics, they put players in the NFL...but that guy who's recruiting me, he's from Illinois...frick him and his Yankee arse. I'm signing with Joe Bob because he's southern!"

It's not about the immediate relationship w/ a potential recruit.
it's about the relationships w/ the feeder schools. Alex Collins absolutely would not be at Arkansas if Bret Bielema and Charlie Partridge didn't have a great relationship w/ Alex's HS coach.
Alex wanted to get away from home to have a better chance at success, If Bert was still at Wisconsin, Collins would have been a Heisman contender this year as a Badger.
The fight for assistant coaches in the SEC is tied to their recruiting connections.
We're not beating out Michigan, Ohio St., ND, Mich. St. Penn St. etc. Detroit and Grand Rapids and Ypsilanti blue chippers. Outside of the OL, Bielema's program hasn't really attracted much attention from national level recruits outside of the states that touch the Arkansas borders.
Knowing how to win in the SEC isn't the same as winning the Big 10 or the MAC.

Couldn't you say most of this after Bert hired Enos. You make great points but I'll give Bert the benefit of the doubt.

I think it's a good hire as far as teaching and technique. He's been a part of some very good rushing attacks. As far as recruiting, obviously that's yet to be seen.

I do give Bielema the benefit of the doubt too. He's got a great track record, however, it'd be nice to not always be starting 130 yards out in a 100 yard dash.

Fair enough, this hire doesn't really have me fired up or anything but I felt the same way when Enos was announced. Will be interested to see the press conference.

When it comes to OL coach, you'd rather have teaching over recruiting... obviously, guys like Pittman that can do both are amazing, but that's rare.

Did Bert eat the old one?

Why didn't y'all hire A.J. Ricker? He's still available.

You don't hire an assistant coach for technique. Virtually any OL coach can teach technique. You need a recruiter.

Hell no, Oline is the most technical position group.
Recruiters are RB, DB, and TE coaches.

True you hire them on ability to develop o-linemen's technique and teach/explain blocking schemes.

But not every OL coach can get 18-22 year olds to understand and use those techniques.

Need a talent developer who also can recruit.

There is excellent young talent on campus. If the guy is a teacher, he will be a huge asset.

Throughout the history of modern football, well-seasoned, technically sound Olines have had success more than any other position group.

I don't see any similarities at all. Richardson just seemed to hire yes men and I certainly don't see that with Bielema's hires. Nolan hired family, similar to Nutt, but I'm not aware of any family on Bielema's staff. Now I'm puzzled how you even came up with that idea?

He is no Pittman.
Maybe not, but he has the advantage of having Dan Enos as OC instead Dick Chaney.
