our offense and bert's first class treatment of oline shouldn't be overlooked as big reasons we've been able to land the olinemen that we have.

Neither should Pittman's recruiting
Posted on 12/12/15 at 11:17 am to The_Joker
sure. they each play a part. how much of a part? guess that depends on the recruit
Posted on 12/12/15 at 11:19 am to hawgfaninc
By the same logic we should have RBs lining up to play for us but we don't, so I'd put more stock in recruiting.
Posted on 12/12/15 at 11:23 am to The_Joker
our running backs are treated to first class?
Posted on 12/12/15 at 11:38 am to hawgfaninc
I'm not 7 years old so I have no desire to argue pedantics with you. If you think riding 1st class for 6 2 hour flights throughout the year makes that much of a difference in a kid choosing a school, then you keep on believing that and we'll see if the OL recruits keep coming. You know exactly what I meant and you have no real answer.

I come at this from both sides of the table.
I sincerely hate to lose Pittman, and I'm also confident Bert will find a solid replacement.

you said by the same logic and the first class aspect was part of my logic. my biggest point is that there are many other aspects besides a recruiter for why a player chooses a school.
pittman is a great recruiter though. that's proven at not only Arkansas, but north carolina and tennessee as well.
however even without pittman bert has had success recruiting great offensive lineman and the system he has in place is very conducive to that.

I think so too. He's had his misses along with his hits though.

The reason why this stings so much is you could easily argue hat Pittman is the best Oline coach in cfb. PIttman was a big part of our identity and brand, even if the Oline underperformed at times over the past 3 years.

with the system bert has in place, a half way competent recruiter should be able to get 4 and 5 stars.

Look where we got these 4 star linemen
Florida, Colorado, Minnesota, Kansas, North Carolina, Hawaii, etc
No other position has shown the ability to go all over the country for talent.
To say Bert is responsible for that when he's not having that impact anywhere else is just a weak attempt at kidding yourself.
Can we get a competent replacement? Sure we can but just from player reactions its obvious this is a hit to our momentum

I'm hoping it's more the system getting those recruits here than the coach.
if they're coming here for an assistant coach, then they didn't make a smart decision since assistants come and go all the time.

According to the statement from UGA, a Pittman coached offensive line has led the SEC the past four seasons in fewest sacks allowed -- dating back to the 2012 season at Tennessee where his line gave up only 0.67 sacks per game.

A source told WholeHogSports that Arkansas coach Bret Bielema and at least seven offensive linemen went to Pittman's home in Fayetteville on Friday to attempt to persuade him to stay with the Razorbacks.

Worst two days of my life
players went to pour their hearts out to pittman...
pittman told them it's not you, it's me

"Frank, I know I told you when you were in high school that you should come play for me, and that because of that you chose to come here over the 100 other schools that offered you a scholarship, but I'm super besties with Jim Chaney and just can't say no. Sorry Bret, I know I'm the highest paid offensive line coach in America, I know you've given me everything I need to be successful as a coach, and I know Kirby Smart doesn't have an iota of the head coaching experience you have, but again, I just can't turn down seeing my super bestie Jim every day! Now please leave my house, I have a skype session with Jim in a minute."

I've never liked Smart.... UGA has been chasing Bert's jock on the few guys we're getting after.
Smart saw what a lot of us did, we had a system that could work well with a roster of better than average athletes.
I'm starting to get a hate for Georgia.

Something tells me that if smart is targeting our guys that Saban will be soon. Next guy needs non-compete clause.

What sucks even worse for me is that I was working on lining up Pittman to speak at an event I'm working on for Jan.
well down the crapper that goes.
Would've been awesome to have him. He's funny and engaging.
and I'll reshare my story of seeing Pittman and Chaney throwing down at the Pizza Hut buffet and them talking retirement, NFL pensions, and what seemed like Chaney trying to convince Sam to take a NFL job.
I said then that I felt Chaney was on the way out, which was re-affirmed when I ran into Chaney at Barnes & Noble and I got eye contact with him and as I was saying "hey coach" he put his head down and turned down an aisle.
I ran into Pittman a bunch in Fayetteville and he was always confident and engaging.
Sadly, Chaney with the athletes that UGA has and will bring in will probably do really well. UGA has that huge 5* OL commit. Pittman surely knows it's easier to recruit to UGA than Arkansas.
The mere 25K raise stings a bit though, because there's nothing he could say to those kids that justifies leaving them. It's a lateral move, for the same pay. Just at somewhere he thinks will be better.
Cut-throat biz that we play the nice guy far too often.

yeah. i'm kind of cringing at everyone on the rant saying he will be a huge failure. he may not be able to work around players that are not his ideal, he may not be able to actually coach up a QB, but if he has the talent in place he will do well. his bad time here i think was a product of BA's bum shoulder. Chaney put up big numbers at Tenn with Bray even as some of the Tenn fans were griping.
