I just don't get it. The guy failed miserably as a head coach at Florida. They made a new hire, and Florida makes the SEC Championship. Boom comes to Auburn, and our defense wasn't noticeably better than last year, yet they hire Muschamp? What am I missing?

They want a "name". He is the best they could do. Sounds like several people turned them down. If he gets a good OC, who can recruit O, he will be a great HC, IMO. I think he concentrated too much on recruiting the D side of the ball at UF. Maybe he has learned from that.

Gus has done the same thing on the O side of the ball for us. I hope he has learned also.

I don't think he failed miserably. I think he struck out with quarterbacks. I think his schtick got old and he lost the team there at the end. He did get them into the Sugar Bowl, and I think McElwain had an easy season thanks to all the positive things Will established there.

Our defense was noticeably better than last year. It definitely showed signs of improving throughout the season, something I haven't seen in Auburn since 2010. We had some bad moments especially early on, but we haven't given up this few TDs to SEC opponents since 2007. All signs point to the defense being even better next season.

If Will can cool his hot head and give his OC some more freedom - freedom being something he may have learned from Gus - I think he'll be successful.
