The addition of Houston would be related to SEC encroachment on Big 12 territory. Their thinking would be that having a Big12 team in Houston would help keep some of the market share they are losing to A&M and LSU.

The definitely should go back to the SWC name if they add Cougar High

Knocks TAMU into a tie with UT as the 5th best football program in Texas.

It makes sense. Houston has a better athletics tradition than many of the current BIG 12 members.
Finishes in the AP Top 25:
Oklahoma- 54
Texas- 46
TCU- 18
West Virginia- 18
Houston- 13
Baylor- 13
Kansas State- 13
Oklahoma State- 11
Texas Tech- 11
Kansas- 7
Iowa State- 2
Add to that a Heisman Trophy winner
Add to that FIVE Final 4 appearances in Men's Basketball.
And all that adds up to a pretty decent athletic history.
If the BIG 12 adds Houston, they'd have to add one other team in order to have a conference championship game. My guess is that BYU would get a phone call. If BYU opts out, Cincinnati is the obvious next best choice.
SMU posted a 49–9–1 record from 1980–1984, which was the highest win percentage (.839) in Division 1-A over that span.
Pony up, bitches.

I would be terrified if I was an Aggy. SMU and Houston will start taking your recruits.
A strong Big12 will destroy what TAMU has been able to do joining the SEC.

Tulane would be a good move as far as territory goes.

How old is that article? Two months?

Houston won't. It's a commuter college and the city of Houston sucks. SMU is a nice campus surrounded by ridiculous amounts of money. If SMU was in the Big 12, it would have as much potential, if not more, than TCU. Houston is a notch below that.

I've never understood how the Big 12 offices haven't drooled over the prospect of Tulane. Right in the heart of great recruiting grounds, and you get to go to New Orleans every other year for a road trip, which is better than literally every other Big 12 venue.

Houston and UCF.
They would look East and would need a state with a lot of TV sets.
They may add 4 and go Memphis, UCF, Cincy and Houston.

Actually think BYU and Memphis make more sense than Houston if it ever happens
Posted on 11/30/15 at 2:57 pm to TeLeFaWx
I agree SMU would be the real threat. Houston would snag one here and there, but not year in and out.
I am a Texas guy and have really enjoyed TAMU joining the SEC and I love the damage you did to the Big 12 upon departure. I would hate to see that conference gain any more strength again. The SECw likes those Texas recuits.

I'm good to bring the sWc conference back as long as UT-Austin is nowhere near it

This guy is actually correct, though it's more Houston than smu. Houston to the big 12 would definitely have a significant impact on our recruits.
