If we beat both LSU and State?

Beating two rivals will definitely help soften the blow but man, this is probably the most talented team we have ever seen and maybe will ever have.

I think all in all, if we win the last two I'll still be a happy camper. What say you?

If you believe that this is the most talented team we will ever have then that is in fact a problem. This staff wasn't building for one year only to fall apart. We have better recruiting and the team will get better.

It is the most talented team Ole Miss has had most probably to date-and it's being fricked up with shite coaching. Great-we have a foundation, but when it starts crumbling under shitty coaching, watch those recruits go running for other schools.

If we beat both LSU and State I will be happy. I will be ecstatic if we beat both of them AND State beats Bama this weekend. That would mean the Rebels would be in Atlanta for the SECCG. There's still hope!

Oh wait nevermind, there are still Arkansas receivers and tight ends running free in our secondary.

If we beat Alabama, Auburn, State, TAMU and LSU in the same season, how could you not be happy?

It'll be argued for a while, bud.

3 First round picks, potentially 3 top 20 picks, will always be in contention for "most talented team" mention.

CJ Johnson is our starting MLB and has played DE almost his entire OM career. Our other LBs are like 200 lbs. We have no guard play whatsoever. Our secondary is legit bad at every position.

This whole "most-talented team ever" is offset by severe deficiencies at key positions.

Having an even distribution of talent > top end talent.

It's the coaching that sucks, not the talent.

We are talent deficient at the following positions:

OG
C
LB
S
CB

Okay, we stayed the same at OG as we did last year with a slight improvement with Patterson.

We got better at C with Conyers, (yes I know he's hurt). But stayed the same if you want to count Still.

I think we got better with CJ over DT at MIKE. Denzel is still there would you say he's more talented than Bird?

Trae is the same. Prewitt and Hilton are about even.

Senquez was the only one here that shows some regression.

We're more talented at QB and WR. So I'd say this team is more talented than last years.

OG - no we aren't...we have 2 of the top OG recruits the past 2 recruiting cycle
C - maybe, Still shouldn't be playing, Bell is actually better if he can snap better
LB - agree, we have swung and missed at so many LBs it is laughable. Imagine if we hadn't pulled our offer from Avery
S - No we aren't, Hampton and the Moores are plenty good enough and don't forget TC
CB - once again we have talent there that just isn't performing. Can anyone tell me why we have a kid that shut down a Pro-Bowl level WR playing 3rd string, at best, WR?

So basically we have a more talented team but they aren't performing...so it's either focus or coaching...and coaching helps with focus.

I don't really think comparing to last year's team is the best way to asses overall talent, you have to consider where they rank in the conference overall.

If you ranked our LBs in the SEC they would be at or near the bottom, IMO.

Conner has been injured which has been a huge loss. CJ Johnson is playing MLB out of necessity and he's a better rush end (Youngblood getting a ton of snaps as a result.) Gates has been serviceable, but I don't think he's a guy you want playing 50+ snaps a game. Temario Strong never developed. Victor Evans not ready. Denzel has never been the same as he was in 2012, and he's like 5'10 200 anyway.

Secondary is a complete mess:

Elston has been good. Hilton is a gamer but he doesn't have the ideal size, and he's not a 1-1 cover guy @ CB. CJ Hampton has been a bust. Tony Bridges not nearly as good as advertised and was benched in the Arky game. Tee Shepard bust. Anthony Alford bust. Kailo bust. Zed Woods isn't ready yet. Moore twins and Carlos Davis are special teams-only kind of guys and yet they've seen real snaps in big games this year.

To me the biggest coaching fail is CJ Hampton, but it's hard to judge exactly why he sucks.

Morris plays real snaps - he is awful. Patterson is going to be fine. Rod Taylor boxing really hurt us.

The Moores are not SEC caliber hence why they've been benched lately for Z Woods. Hampton has been bad this year. TC is a LB in our scheme and he's been injured.

Kendarius has been solid, but he has been inconsistent. Derrick Jones is a headcase I think. Bridges laid a huge turd against Arky.

2 of our guards were top 100 players coming out of high school. I would think that qualifies at being talented at that position. Elson, Conner, CJ Hampton are all pretty damn talented as well. I'll give you LB and C, but at the other positions, we are not lacking talent, just good coaching.

Aaron Morris was highly ranked and got fat and terrible on his own - is that the coaches fault? Patterson has been good but he's a true frosh and not quite ready. Rod Taylor got injured boxing in the locker room so it has hampered his development (I think we can blame the coaches for that tho).

Conner is a LB in our scheme. CJ Hampton is a bust. Elston turned the corner this year and is legit good.

I don't think you can blame coaching when "x player is a bust". You are always gonna to have busts. Bama has a 5-star CB that was a Top 15 HS player (Tony Brown) that only plays special teams. Is it because he wasn't coached well?

The point is that every good program has recruit well enough to overcome the busts, but we have we haven't done that at certain positions.

The thing is before 2013 and his ACL injury Morris had a second round grade and was 100% declaring after the season. He didn't suddenly become shitty. I watched Ken Webster and Tony Bridges(Tee too but he had other issues not hearing related) play physical one on one bump coverage against our WRs including Quon in August. Did they suddenly forget how to cover? The common denominator is coaching and it falls to the 4.3 million dollar man. Mullen takes these second tier MS recruits and develops them and we take the same or higher rated kids and they bust out.

Completely agree. It's odd how we have these kids on the sidelines and they honestly show no improvement whatsoever.
