I personally liked it better pre BCS/playoff.
The old bowl tie-ins were good for arguing who was better. They still argue till this day. The 4 team playoff just isn't that memorable.

I believe the 70's and 80's are the golden era of college football. Keith Jennings "whoa Nellie", ap national champions, blue chip recruits (no star system), listening to the games on the radio since only one maybe two games per week were televised. Maybe I'm just getting old
