If Kimbo doesn't show major improvement...get all the monies and give it to Gregg Marshall. He will be more willing to leave after his son graduates HS....and his star players leave.

Kim was a colossal mistake, to compete in this conference we need to quit being such tight asses and start spending more on hires and continue to upgrade facilities we are in an arms race with Superpowers. Unfortunately Bama, LSU, UGA etc are the USA or USSR and we are more like Turkey or Belguim.

We could have gotten Howland for roughly what we were paying Haith.

Mizzou's basketball facilities are amazing. Second to none. It's more about spending for coaches & recruiting.

Kim has this season or he's done. The new AD isn't going to tolerate a shite football and basketball team in the same season without lighting someone's arse on fire.

Let him coach a few seasons.

I would not hire Howland but that is just me. There are two sides to the UCLA stories but just the fact one side gets so bad is a huge red flag. If he was such an obvious fix, he would have ended up somewhere better than MSU.

It is what it is. Kim will either turn it around and I'll watch or he won't and I won't. Nothing is going to change who we actually hired so might as well ride with it and see how it turns out.

I would guess we have two more years of this shitshow so I'm settling in.

But I'm not going to sit by and let people just make things up. If someone says dumb stuff like "addition by subtraction" when two more players leave this year, I will note their idiocy.

Does anyone know if there was any truth in us making a real push for Marshall and we were just a million or so off to get him?

Yeah...we missed a great opportunity. I mean, it isn't often that a coach of Howland's status actually contacts Mizzou to say he wants the job. In fact...that never happens.

And we told him "no thanks."

You and me both 808. Was more to the point of the what if. That's different than claiming the team improved last year or that van leer is on tatum's level.

I really don't think it was money as much as it was timing. We didn't really lowball him from what I heard. We didn't offer quite what Bama offered, but it was an offer that would have forced us to renegotiate Pinkel's contract.

I know some people in KC on the Mizzou side and some very well placed WSU boosters. From what they have all indicated the story goes similar to this:

Marshall and alden came to terms on the money. I think this was rumored to have happened in the kaufmann suites at the Mizzou/WSU baseball game. I think that was a wednesday game at the K. Alden couldn't wait much longer so he gave GM through the weekend to deliberate. GM liked everything he had seen at Mizzou with respect to facilities and what not but really wanted complete support from his family. After discussing with his family for a couple days, they decided the timing wasn't right with his last kid still in HS. He let Alden know that weekend and Kim was hired within minutes of the news.

It was just bad timing (or luck) for Mizzou.

I heard something similar...except the part about agreement on the money. The biggest thing he loved, besides the top notch facilities, was somewhere that he could be "the guy"....as in not necessarily a blue blood. Loves being top dog at WSU, and his family love it (last kid is a senior in HS this season). Only wants one more move though.

Should definitely make another run at him. Although, everyone who needs a guy will be there.
