Should Auburn have hired Durkin instead of Muschamp

I think that's a fair question. D.J. Durkin was Muschamp's defensive coordinator at Florida. Harbaugh hired him and his defense is one of the best in the country, meanwhile Auburn's has been shaky at best. It bears questioning exactly who was responsible for building Florida's defense the last few years.

Muschamp doesn't suck - he had good Ds at Florida, the talent just isn't there for Auburn.

Still scared of Muschamp I see. Clinging to any hope that he won't turn us around in a year or two.

Muschamp is a good DC and they would have a decent defense if AU offense didn't keep them on the field so often.

Based on the lack of secondary talent, injured Lawson, and bad offense, you can't blame Champ for everything.

People keep forgetting about this. I don't think he will ever be able to reach the elite levels he was at before because of this.

The look on Muschamps face when Kentucky got the ball back near the end of their game was classic "deer in headlights".

Our offense has nothing to do with our defense giving up 3rd and long over and over

Yep. Good DCs walking into the fire if they go to coach at programs running this type of offense.

Durkin inherited a defense that ranked 7th in yards/game in 2014 at 311 ypg, and 27th in points allowed/game at 23 ppg.

Muschamp inherited a shitshow.

Both are very good at what they do. Will just has more work cut out for him

Durkin took over a relatively good, experienced defense in Michigan. That side of the ball certainly wasn't why that team regressed under Brady Hoke.

Auburn hasn't had a good defense in a long time.

Auburn doesnt have the defensive talent right now. Add that to losing Lawson and it's no surprise their defense is still a shite show.

Auburn should have hired some players that could tackle, shed blocks, and cover.

Do Auburn fans cling to hope to turn around in a year or two every other year?

Like others said, Muschamp doesn't have the players right now. AU's D can't tackle or cover well. Combine that w/ Lawson being out and Boom's job is much more difficult.

I think you are missing my point. There is no reason your Defense can't be very good but I don't believe it will ever reach elite levels. I'm not blaming your current struggles on D because of your offense.

Muschamp is a good DC but may have an ego thing working for a 2 year HC. Lane Kiffin at Bama worked because the age difference and accomplishments of Saban (and cause he don't take no shite). Auburn tries to copy Bama in everything but it never really works.

This is a very new & interesting question that has not been brought up in the past resulting in the same back & forth bickering between the same fanbases....
