Both are looking for HC right now, but which job is better?
From a History perspective seems like Maryland has the edge:
Maryland:
All-time record
620–553–43 (.528)
Bowl:
Postseason bowl record
11–12–2 (.480)
Conference Titles: 11
Claim Championships: 1 (1953)
South Carolina:
All-time record
586–554–44 (.514)
Bowl:
Postseason bowl record
8–12 (.400)
Conference Titles: 1
Claim Championships: 0
Seems to me that Maryland has better history. The DMV area is the of the hotbeds for recruiting talent where there is no competition unlike the SEC's constant infighting for talent. We also have Underarmour money that South Carolina cannot match. Not to mention coaches would likely enjoy leaving near DC. I like South Carolina as a program but it seems that MD has it beat. Your thoughts?

what is the draw about living near DC? High cost of living and high crime and politicians all over the place.

There is also nice places to see like the Smithsonian, Washington Monument, Lincoln memorial, etc. I am sure coaches and their family would like to take a weekend off to see the nation's capital.

Probably get paid a lot more in Carolina

Good God. You think the bowl record is what our future coaches will look at when deciding? Not say...
facilities? (Which SC has spent big money upgrading the last couple of years)
Their pay check?
And you're somehow arguing that MD has a monopoly on any recruiting hot bed? Really?
eta: I'm willing to bet this is a Clempsoner with an alter.

Crab cakes and football! Seriously I could never see a coach passing up the opportunity to coach I'm the SEC to go to Maryland.
Also you know your program Is a gimiky joke when u have to wear stupid looking different unis every game

South Carolina by a wide margin:
- More recent success
- Better facilities
- Better fan support
- Comparable or better recruiting grounds
- More prestigious conference

South Carolina is the better job hands down.

Also this is clearly an alter, but PG County blows. I would live in Columbia, SC over College Park, MD 10 times out of 10

SC easily. It isn't even question.

Maryland sucks and has ugly unis. Plus you have to live in Maryland.

I live in DC and it's a great place to live, especially for a football coach making millions. But, the history stats you provide don't tell much of the story. South Carolina is in a great position. The fan base doesn't have to be split with pro teams (Ravens and Redskins are MUCH more popular here than the Terps), or even other college teams (VT is really big here, too). The conference affiliation also helps. SEC is much better than Big Ten. The money is probably comparable, and both schools have roughly the same chance to excel, but I think the SEC is, and is certainly perceived to be, a much better testing ground for a coach. I think a good young coach looking for an opportunity to make his mark would consider South Carolina to be a great oppourtunity. Of course, that's not even to mention that he would only need 87 career wins to become the winningest coach in the program's history.

Coaches make millions. They wouldn't need living near DC to justify a weekend there. They can go for weekend trips anywhere in the country if they want to.
