Eventually, cute gimmick offenses are figured out by the better defenses. See Ole Miss, Auburn, AtM. You gotta be able to run the ball and stop it. Physicality beats cute finess in the long run. Riding the Buga Pain Train!!

Alabama and LSU rise to the top time after time. Best 2 in sec by a long margin.

You wonder why teams like Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas A&M raise and fall so quickly, while Bama and LSU are typically near the top. LSU and Bama are built on Defense and running offense. It's hard to stop a power running team when they have a solid line up front.

AtM.

Their D is a far bigger issue IMO.

Baylor is a machine though. They didn't do it this game, but every game before, they were the only team averaging at least 300 passing yards and at least 300 rushing yards per game this year. They average 357 rushing and 367 passing prior to this game. That is just ridiculous!

Who would actually hold that team under 40 points outside of maybe Michigan or Bama?

Bama is definitely proving that sound D kills a gimmick offense.

That however was an absolutely terrible throw.

That must be why they have all those National Championship trophies.

Some "gimmicky" offenses like Baylor and Oregon are very effective, even against teams that "figure them out."

I think the bigger disadvantage of those types of offenses is from a recruiting perspective.

the difference is we have more talent than them on a regular basis

if chip kelly was at LSU we'd score like 89 points a game

They remind me of the 2008 Oklahoma squad but much better at running. They have an easy schedule so I doubt they lose a game until the playoffs. That offense really isn't gimmick. It's tempo, but they also slow the tempo down, and they run between the tackles with the QB and RBs. They spread the WRs out til their almost kissing the white lines, and Coleman is a monster at WR.

I mean would you call Ohio State's offense a gimmick that ran through Bama last year? I know the offensive styles are different, but Baylor isn't the type of offense that can be shut down. Not this year it isn't.

We can't recruit a RB tho.

As an A&M fan I agree about the basic premise. You have to be able to run the ball and stop it. Our offense puts way too much on our quarterback's shoulders. Kyle Allen played a bad game, but he had to do everything due to the lack of a running game. Our offensive line talent isn't what it has been and it's bearing out on the field. I have more questions about our offense than defense right now. Chavis made some good adjustments in the 2nd half and the run d improved quite a bit.

One of these is not in the same stratosphere as the other.

Auburn > LSU since we went to the "gimmick" offense.
