Boring Friday is boring...

Know Rivalry

Interesting how fans view rivalries. Of all the fan bases, the following rivalries are mutual, from a majority of fans' perspective. Some are surprising:

Akron – Kent St.
Alabama – Auburn [Iron Bowl]
App. State – Georgia Southern
Arizona – ASU
Army – Navy
Boise St. – Fresno St.
Bowling Green – Toledo
BYU – Utah [Holy War]
Cal – Stanford [The Big Game]
Central Michigan – Western Michigan [Central-Western Rivalry]
Clemson – South Carolina
Florida – Florida State
Cougar High – Rice [Bayou Bucket Classic]
Illinois – Northwestern
Iowa – Iowa State
Kansas – Missouri [Boarder War]
Kentucky – Louisville
Michigan – Ohio State
Middle Tennessee – Western Kentucky [100 Miles of Hate]
Minnesota – Wisconsin
Mississippi State – Ole Miss [Egg Bowl]
N.C. State – UNC (surprising)
Nevada – UNLV [Battle for Nevada]
New Mexico – New Mexico State [Rio Grande Rivalry]
Notre Dame – USC
Oregon – Washington
Pitt – West Virginia
Rutgers – UConn
t.u. – Oklahoma [Red River Snooze-Fest]
UCF – USF
Virginia – Virginia Tech

We, of course, have no rivals.

I think this one:

could develop over time. Of course it would help if we'd win a few. I'm thinkin' this year is as good a time to start as any.

So we consider tu, LSU, & Bama our rivals.

Baylor, Tech, and tu consider us rivals.

Yeah. LSU-A&M is the most natural and makes the most sense for both schools, and obviously, the hate is there, but we do need to win a few in a row for it to really take off.

That's the thing. How much exposure/money/realization-of-potential is riding on this year's run defense becoming effective? We need it more than anything to enter BR undefeated AND win in BR. EVERYTHING is riding on our run D this year. It could be the difference between a playoff spot and another 3rd place West finish.

Yes. One thing that needs to happen for LSU-A&M to actually take off is nutria corndog needs to quit hating so hard on gump. Lots of hurt feelings over Nick Saban.

Yikes for Mizzou.

LINK

In conference only 5 of the 14 consider them a rival at all in the tiniest bit.

Ark at 4.5 and the other 4 less than 0.18

Mizzou is like Canada to me. I don't think of them much but when I do it's like oh yeah they are up there...never really had any intense dislike for them.

I am shocked the Egg Bowl isn't more even.

Ole Miss considers MSU & LSU about equal as rivals. I would not have guessed that.

i think an lsu-A&M rivalry will take off as soon as we beat them a time or two and win the SEC. could happen this year. need to win against lsu or bama, hopefully both. i think we match up well with om, not as worried about that game.

Keep seeing this, am I missing a back story, or is it just universally not liked?

I'd agree 100% if they had a good QB. If they even had Mett I think they'd be unbeatable (and not just by us). I think LF and company could run for 200+ and it won't be enough. Harris will screw up enough that their total offense will be way short of A&M's.

Of course, I've been wrong before.

One of life's mysteries. I Googled "Toonces" but most of the results were SNL skits involving a house cat. Personally I like the tiger in Kaiser's sig, but they didn't ask me. Honest answer: I think it's a branding issue just slightly less controversial than A&M's bevel.

Its just universally hated. Its a tooney looking tiger, just an overall crap logo that they use to use for everything. Then the fans voice was finally heard but the sumbitch is still lingering. It outs of production though so it will disappear soon, hopefully.

eta: Theres alot of reasons LSU hates Bama and Saban is not really a reason anymore. Bama has had our number, im sure yall have noticed. If it wasnt for them we would have had 2 more ships on the ole belt. Theyve raided big recruits that we really really wanted it goes on. So yeah theres plenty of reason why some LSU fans hate Bama. I dont typically care what happens outside of the LSU game. Why did yall hate t.u. so much?

I'm pretty sure that's a product of John Vaught and Billy Cannon days, when both teams were NC contenders. But still, yeah I'm surprised it's that high on their list.

Because frick t.u., that's why.

Off the top of my head:

Carrying trees out of the woods for bonfire we sang an old spiritual song, which started with "1, 2, frick t.u!"

"They have a sliver down the East side" of Texas.

"We'll take care of you", another DeLoss Dodds gem in reference to a proposed move to the PAC, which A&M knew nothing about.

LHN. The network itself was incredibly self-centered and short-sighted, but when those cretins announced they'd be airing Texas HS football games (since nixed), I think everybody realized that t.u. was going to continually push the envelope and screw everybody.

Aside from those recent things, anybody who grew up in Texas knows what assholes t.u. people typically are. "We're Texas". frick you!

Finest gives some good reasons, but many of them arose LONG after the hatred started burning.

It probably comes down to the fact that they were always bigger and had more money, they were in a nice city and we were in a Podunk town, their student body was traditionally more urban and ours more rural (before "urban" acquired its current definition), their academic focus was on more "upscale" fields versus the "agriculture" at TAMU, the fact that they traditionally had female students and we did not, they were more liberal and we were more conservative (at least for the last 50 years or so). For all of those reasons, they kicked our arse for a long time, and we hated them for it.

Historically, the story is a lot like the TAMU/LSU story that I told here at 10:47am. The schools/teams were pretty evenly-matched until WW2, but thereafter the 'Sips got LOTS bigger than TAMU, and they basically owned us for 40 years. Since 1980 (when we really became a large modern University), it is basically a dead heat.

Texas always said that TAMU was not its chief rival. They claimed that their focus was on Oklahoma, which annoyed us to no end.
