SOS lied to his team. He lied to their parents. And then he quit like a bitch. You guys can lap up his shite sandwich all you want. I have no skin in the game.
Sure he lied to his players. Just like every single one of the 13 other head coaches in the SEC have lied to the kids (or professionals) on their last team about their intentions.
In the sports world, those are by and large considered white lies. Like I said, every one of our coaches have let a roster full of players down, usually multiple times, before their current stint.
USC fans see the writing on the wall and seem to be thrilled at getting a head start on rebuilding rather than a guy quitting 2-3 months before NSD.
The players, they do suffer some hardship but that's a part of this level of football.
But look at Auburn, Bama, aTm and others in the very recent past- they've gotten new coaches and then a roster full of the previous coaches' players have soared to heights they never would have under the regime immediately prior. They have to choose if Spurrier leaving is reason to stop trying for what they came for when they signed with USC.
Maybe him sitting through the losses would have been a healthy ego check- but that's not good for the program as that is a lame duck personality with no ties to the future influencing the program.

Breaking News: Spurrier just read this and is giving back all his wins, championships, and even his Heisman after reading those awesome words your daddy told you when you were getting the hell beat out of you on the playground.
Just kidding Spurrier said you were a fricking douchebag.

But didn't Saban do the same at Miami? Although he didn't retire, he left his players high and dry.

Eh, the more I look at it, he did SC a big favor. They've got a jump on the head coming search.
USCw will get someone with a big name regardless of the timing of Sark's ouster, but USCe is in the driver's seat for everyone else.
Plus it goes to show you how dealing with the press can help your legacy. Kiffin wasn't terrible considering the sanctions he dealt with, but he was such an arse that the media lampooned him. Jeff Fisher is similar. He's a perennial .500 coach but is considered a good coach by the media because he says the right things.

Clemson fans and people who actually watched Clemson games the past 5 years would argue Morris was the thing holding us back. his bad play calling was an issue in the SC games and the FSU games.
he couldn't beat SC with Boyd at QB, Sammy Watkins and Nuk Hopkins at WRs and Andre Ellington at RB.

if we throw out Dabo's first and last games against Spurrier, in which Clemson won easily on both sides of the ball, yes. lol
Also, Spurrier told Dabo that Clem dominated the game two years ago but the players just couldn't hold onto the ball.
SC was going to get shredded by Clemson this year, in COlumbia no less, which is what forced SPurrier out.
SPurrier's biggest success at SC was beating Clemson and UGA and when he saw he wasn't going to do that much anymore, he hung it up. lol

I'm glad you realize that we will no longer be "getting shredded by clemson this year". Instead, we will be fricking the hell out of y'alls natty pipe dreams.

Yeah, bc beating Ole Miss when ranked #4 and Bama when ranked #1, Michigan, etc etc etc weren't nearly as important as whipping y'alls sorry asses.

He's accomplished more in his life time than most of us could ever dream of doing. He has earned the right to do what he wants, when he wants. And if you don't like it, Spurrier doesn't give a damn.
As a fan and alum of a school that he has owned for most of his head coaching career, I have mad respect for the OBC. The fricksticks hating on him are just that... fricksticks. OBC is one of the most accomplished coaches in SEC history.
My only solace is that we started owning him in recent years, as that bastard was a pain in our arse.
Gonna miss Hatin' arse Spurrier.

lol all those Big 10 teams you played were weak teams. Michigan has been a dumpster fire. lol
Ole Miss was never no. 4 in the country in reality.
like I said, if beating UGA and Clemson a lot is all a program wants, Spurrier delivered.
reality is, if Dabo wasn't running a good program at Clemson, Spurrier most likely wouldn't have resigned. He figured he would be dominating the recruiting in the state and getting good out of state recruits over us, due to his big name and NFL head coaching experience etc.

note he complained about the 'recruiting game' in his press conference.
Dabo is known as a stellar recruiter
Spurrier thought he would own this state in recruiting
'King Kong ain't got chit on me' Spurrier when he arrived at SC

or you can look at it as USC gets a head start at rebuilding. Most coaches would just get fired, at least he walked away so they wouldn't have to wait til December.

Back to the topic at hand....
8 years ago today Tommy Bowden resigned at Clemson.
Why didn't he take his beatings like a man?

he was fired. that year's Clemson team was much better than what Spurrier has now though.
I never said anything about Spurrier not being a man for resigning. it's his life
I do think his running out of press conferences after a bad loss was weak though. he likes talking trash after wins but can't stand in there like a man after a loss.
